Trilobio Location

: San Francisco, CA. Onsite preferred, hybrid possible (2-3 days onsite required). About Us: Trilobio is at the forefront of revolutionizing biological research through cutting-edge automation. Founded in 2021 by Roya Amini-Naieni and Maximilian Schommer, our mission is to mitigate the reproducibility crisis in biology by providing fully automated lab solutions that are accessible to organizations of all sizes. Our integrated platform combines robotics, hardware, and software to automate every step of the research process, enabling scientists to conduct experiments with unprecedented precision and efficiency. By eliminating human error and streamlining workflows, Trilobio empowers researchers to focus on groundbreaking discoveries that can cure diseases, reduce suffering, and address global challenges. Join us in shaping the future of biology. About the Role: We’re looking for an Electrical Engineer who will own the electrical subsystem of the Trilobot. Your work will be interesting, challenging, and have a huge impact on our company’s success, and, by extension, the scientific communities we serve. You will be joining a startup of 8-12 engineers in a combined shop-office space in San Francisco, working to build accessible automation tooling for biology from the ground up. You will have primary responsibility and design ownership over your sub-systems in the technological stack, and will also engage with, debug, and develop on other components in cooperation with coworkers. Expect to become the local expert at your role quickly, and for the team to rely on you for time and budgeting estimates, task management, and other aspects of project management related to your expertise. Responsibilities: PCB design for motor controllers, sensors, cameras, wireless devices, etc. Initial firmware/bringup of the boards. Procure and implement electrical harnesses and manage associated documentation. Develop electrical safety systems. Design and implement novel sensors, motor drives, actuators, and communication systems. Manage remote firmware updating of all boards designed/in use and remote diagnostics of issues. Qualifications: Fluent with PCB design software of your choice (KiCAD/Altium for example). Fluent with C/C++ in embedded systems. Solid understanding of electrical fundamentals. Ability to rapidly prototype systems, and then to dive deep and polish them when prototyping is successful. Experience with high-performance MCUs, for example STM32s, and many of their features. Successful development of sophisticated embedded firmware such as DSP, motor control, bootloaders, image processing, wireless signal handling, etc. Resilient:

We want you to be comfortable, calm, and collected through unique (and often very tough) challenges we face as an early-stage hardware startup. A love for learning and creating:

You have curiosity, intellectual humility, and passion for what you do. Accountable:

Accomplish what you set out to accomplish. If something is preventing that, communicate early and honestly. Impact-driven:

You want your work to be used by others, and work hard to make sure that your work is useful! Trilobio is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive team free from discrimination or harassment. We encourage candidates of any race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status to apply. Seniority level
