What Role You Will Play In Our Team The Director, Federal Government Relations will be responsible for supporting ExxonMobil’s federal government relations function. S/He will be responsible for advancing the company’s strategic federal corporate, policy, government and regulatory relations plan, and for ensuring strong relationships with regulators and government leaders in the US. The successful candidate will work to track, identify, analyze and influence regulatory and legislative policy. S/He will enhance the existing and future capabilities of the federal relations team around Washington by building relationships with key stakeholders and will assist with the delivery of strategic advocacy communications. The position is based in Washington D.C.

What You Will Do

The Director will identify key opportunities to engage with policy makers, through the development of a network that can be leveraged to expand the company’s business. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Federal Government Relations team in meeting their business goals through direct engagement with policymakers and indirect advocacy via trade associations and other external resources

Develop concise briefing papers for senior corporate management in advance of meetings and other engagements with legislators and executive branch officials

Provide briefing materials to senior corporate management in advance of trade association board and executive committee meetings

Work collaboratively with the Federal Government Relations team to support the execution of policy positions and strategies to advance ExxonMobil’s interests

Monitor the development of federal political and related business issues that affect the company's reputation, execute strategies for addressing each issue and deploy resources to ensure management of issues and best practices to ensure a consistent approach across priority policy initiatives

Support the development and dissemination of positions to advance ExxonMobil’s objectives, including policy-related talking points and messages for use by the company’s leaders

About You The successful candidate will demonstrate hands-on leadership, bringing a high level of focus and involvement to drive government relations strategy development and program execution.

Skills And Qualifications

At least 10 years of increasing, successful experience with a diversified and global company, in government and/or in a senior-level government position

A solid professional and personal reputation for integrity and follow-through and trustworthy with confidential information

A collaborative style with proven ability to work on and with a team, build meaningful interpersonal relationships, and a dependable reputation for collaboration

An eagerness to execute a hands-on approach to build credibility, relationships, and knowledge within the company

A detail-oriented professional with excellent written, analytical, and organizational skills, and a track record for delivering results

The ability to drive a quality work product through internal reviews and under time constraints

Strong organizational skills with an ability to support multiple projects in a rapidly evolving environment while meeting deadlines

Outstanding personal communicator with the presence to represent the company at industry forums and events, legislative arenas with stakeholders, partners, and trade associations and a track record of nurturing positive relationships with policymakers and staff

The ability to persuasively communicate complex concepts and programs into concise and credible messages, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality work

A strong desire to learn and develop business acumen and a roll-up-the-sleeves approach; s/he should be a strategic thinker with an ability to produce content as needed

Existing or future potential for strong verbal, written and public speaking and presentation skills, for both internal and external audiences

A Bachelor’s degree is required (advanced degree preferred)

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

Demonstrated work experience with Congress and/or the Administration
