Until is a moonshot company building reversible cryopreservation technology. We develop perfusion systems, cryoprotectant formulations, controlled-rate freezers, and vitrification and rewarming protocols for human tissue. Our focus today is organ-scale reversible cryopreservation: preserving donated organs at subzero temperatures without ice formation, then rewarming them uniformly for transplant. By solving this time-critical challenge, we’re laying the foundation for whole-body reversible cryopreservation — pausing molecular motion to give patients a bridge to future cures. We envision a future where no transplantable organ is lost to logistics, and no terminal diagnosis is final because patients can safely wait for future medicine to arrive.
We’re building a world-class team of scientists and engineers for true full-stack engineering. A key outstanding challenge in the cryopreservation field is discovering formulations of small molecules, known as cryoprotectants, that can prevent ice formation without being toxic. Developing these at scale requires a fast-paced interdisciplinary team of wet-lab scientists and computational engineers. Projects will require a high degree of autonomy and breadth of skill, with a strong emphasis on first principles thinking and a desire to make technology indistinguishable from magic.
About The Role As a Software Engineer working on the Molecular Development team, you’ll be responsible for building computational and data infrastructure that accelerates our science. You’ll design and implement data pipelines and automation systems to enable researchers to generate, analyze, and share experimental results seamlessly. You will own projects end-to-end, collaborate across disciplines, and set a high bar for developing code that scales with the team.
About You
Degree in Computer Science or a related field (Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science)
Demonstrated ability to write modular, maintainable, and performant code in Python
Experience with data analysis (Polars, Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Plotly) and fundamentals in math and statistics
Experience deploying and maintaining cloud infrastructure (e.g. AWS, GCP) and building software that integrates with these platforms
Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, operating systems, and concurrency
Proficient with developer tooling, including Linux command line, Git, and shell scripting
Ability to think from first principles and tackle complex, cross-disciplinary problems with other scientists and engineers
Track record of owning software projects end-to-end, from defining requirements to building scalable solutions
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with laboratory automation (liquid handling, robotics)
Experience or interest/exposure to biology
3+ years of relevant professional experience, or a graduate degree
While this represents our expected range based on market data, final compensation will be determined based on your specific qualifications and may be outside this range. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is not included in this estimate.
