Overview
Graduate Quantitative Research Methodology Coordinator (Student) — part-time position at American University. This position is available only to enrolled American University students.
Responsibilities
Provide guidance for faculty on the use of quantitative data analysis software such as SPSS, STATA, SAS, EViews, Mathematica, MATLAB, R, and others.
Consult on the access and use of proprietary and open-use data resources, including data available through the Inter-University Consortium for Political Research (ICPSR).
Support faculty with the import, organization, formatting, cleaning, and coding of data.
Consult faculty on the selection and application of analytical methods (such as graphing and tabulating data; descriptive and inferential statistics: including measures of central tendency and variability, correlation and regression, parametric and non-parametric tests, sampling and statistical inference, and time series and cross-section-time-series analysis).
Support faculty with the process of running analyses.
Collaborate with the Director of Data and Statistical Analysis to identify needs for new applications or modifications.
Deliver walk-in and scheduled one-on-one consultations for individual faculty members on qualitative research tools.
Deliver specialized training sessions for groups of faculty in collaboration with academic departments.
Deliver workshops during CFE’s regularly scheduled events, such as the August Faculty Workshops.
Position Type and Hours
Part-Time.
Current AU graduate student.
The position is a part-year, 30-week position at 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, with variable hourly work during spring, summer, and winter breaks (with high volume work during the two weeks prior to the beginning of the fall semester, the week prior to the beginning of the spring semester, and the week following the end of the spring semester, due to major events).
Salary $18.00 per hour.
Required Education and Experience
Current Master’s or PhD student at American University.
A strong background in the types of quantitative and mixed methods analyses relevant to their field.
Experience with some of the software packages we support, such as SPSS, STATA, SAS, EViews, Mathematica, MATLAB, and R.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Experience working in a team setting, providing support and guidance.
Must be able to exercise initiative, work independently, multitask, and project a professional image at all times.
Expertise in the Microsoft Office suite.
Preferred Education and Experience Experience working with faculty.
