Summary
We are recruiting a strategic, hands-on Director of Tax to support our client’s global tax function. This role is critical to managing the company’s tax landscape, driven by significant capital investment, multi-jurisdictional operations, and evolving legislative developments. Reporting to the VP of Tax, the Director of Tax will oversee all aspects of tax compliance, provision, planning, and risk management, while partnering closely with Finance, Legal, Treasury, Human Resources, and Operations to support their continued growth and reinvestment strategy. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in U.S. federal and state taxation, including ASC 740, sales and use tax, and property tax, as well as a proven ability to lead teams and collaborate across functions. Direct the preparation, review, and timely filing of all federal, state, and local income tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with current tax laws. Oversee indirect tax compliance, including sales & use tax, property tax, and other transaction-based taxes across multiple jurisdictions. Implement and maintain robust internal controls and documentation to support tax positions and mitigate audit risk. Manage relationships with external advisors and tax authorities, leading audit defense strategies, and resolving disputes efficiently. Continuously monitor legislative changes and assess their impact on compliance obligations and business operations. Lead the preparation and review of quarterly and annual tax provisions under ASC 740, including deferred tax calculations, valuations allowances, uncertain tax positions, and other tax-related assertions. Collaborate with the corporate accounting team to ensure accurate and timely tax-related disclosures in financial statements and SEC filings. Provide tax insights and analysis to support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning. Ensure that tax provision processes are well-documented and compliant with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements. Support the development and execution of tax strategies that align with the company’s growth objectives, including domestic and international expansion. Provide tax support for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other strategic initiatives, ensuring optimal tax outcomes. Help identify opportunities for tax savings and risk mitigation through proactive planning and analysis. Partner with Legal, Treasury, Accounting, HR, and Operations to evaluate the tax implications of new business models, product offerings, and geographic expansion. Lead and inspire a team of tax professionals, fostering a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Education, Skills, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, taxation, or a related field, CPA required. 8-10+ years of experience in income tax compliance, planning, with a focus on federal and multi-state tax regulations. Strong technical knowledge of income tax laws. Experience and strong technical understanding of accounting for income tax (ASC 740). Experience managing tax audits, resolving tax controversies, and negotiating favorable outcomes with federal and state tax authorities. Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret and apply technical tax guidance to real-world scenarios. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings to non-technical stakeholders. Familiarity with tax automation tools (ONESOURCE, Vertex, Alteryx, etc.).
