Overview
The Medical University of South Carolina invites applications for the position of Division Chief of Applied Craniofacial Sciences in the College of Dental Medicine. The Chief will lead the Sections of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. The division envisions a model for integrative educational innovation, patient-centered interprofessional care, and basic and translational research in a world-class clinical setting that uses advanced deployable technologies. This is an open-rank, tenure-track, full-time faculty position. The Division Chief provides leadership for faculty, staff, and residents in the Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics Sections. There are 14 faculty members, 10 staff members, and 15 residents across the Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics Sections. The position is available immediately. MUSC is South Carolina's only comprehensive academic health science center, featuring Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital, a free-standing, state-of-the-art facility with more than twenty-seven pediatric specialties and a pediatric neurosurgical team for the treatment of craniosynostosis. Responsibilities Include
Didactic/clinical teaching and supervision of residents and predoctoral students in the pediatric/orthodontic dentistry program Direct patient care in the operating room as part of the faculty practice or in the Orthodontic Dental Faculty Practice Align the department with University and College goals and advocate for the department's interests Provide service and/or scholarly expertise to MUSC, the profession, and the community Participation in research programs and other collaborative activities within the MUSC community Qualifications
DDS/DMD from a US or Canadian dental school accredited by CODA or equivalent Completion of a CODA-approved pediatric/orthodontic or combined pediatric/orthodontic residency Board-certified candidates preferred; board-eligible to become Board Certified within one year of hire (American Board of Pediatric Dentistry or American Board of Orthodontics) Eligible for a South Carolina dental license Excellence in teaching, a history of funded research and publications; MS, MSD, MPH, or Ph.D. preferred; dual specialty training and experience treating children with special healthcare needs desired Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience Additional Information
The successful candidate will possess strong administrative and organizational skills and a national reputation as a leader in academic dentistry and research. The role includes visionary leadership, management, and stewardship of the departments mission related to research, education, and service, with emphasis on clinical/translational research.
