Overview
The Welding Lead will serve as a key leader within the welding department, responsible for overseeing daily welding operations, training junior welders, managing work orders, and supporting kitting processes. This individual must be a highly skilled, certified welder with strong experience in multiple welding techniques, particularly MIG welding. The Welding Lead will balance hands-on welding responsibilities with leadership duties, ensuring production goals are met while maintaining high safety and quality standards. Responsibilities
Lead and mentor welders, providing technical guidance, coaching, and on-the-job training. Perform advanced welding tasks, with strong expertise in MIG welding and proficiency in other forms of welding. Build, set up, and maintain welding jigs to support production needs. Manage welding workflow, including assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and ensuring quality control. Track work orders and coordinate with the operations team to ensure materials and resources are available. Support kitting processes by overseeing the preparation and organization of parts and materials required for production. Uphold all safety protocols and quality standards in the welding area. Collaborate with the Welding Operations Manager, following direction while also providing input on process improvements. Troubleshoot welding and fabrication challenges to maintain efficiency and minimize downtime. Qualifications
Welding certification required (MIG emphasis; multiple certifications preferred). CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) certification preferred. Minimum 5 years of professional welding experience, with proven expertise in MIG welding. Experience in fabrication, jig design, and assembly. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to train and mentor junior welders. Strong organizational skills for tracking work orders, materials, and production flow. Ability to balance leadership responsibilities with hands-on welding. Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a collaborative team. Knowledge of safety regulations, quality standards, and lean manufacturing practices preferred. Working Conditions
Full-time, on-site role in a manufacturing environment. Requires standing, lifting, and operating welding equipment for extended periods. Must adhere to all safety requirements, including PPE usage.
