About Vaulted Deep Vaulted is a waste management company that removes carbon. We take organic waste that can pollute our environment above ground and safely inject it ultra deep underground—permanently removing carbon from the atmosphere while protecting local land, air, and water. Vaulted is based in Houston, San Francisco, and Kansas. With a growing team of 70+ people across the country, Vaulted signed the second largest carbon removal offtake ever with Microsoft in July 2025 and is rapidly expanding to new sites. Vaulted's proprietary technology builds on decades of expertise to deliver safe, durable carbon and waste management solutions now, at scale.
About the Role At Vaulted, we have an aggressive plan to rapidly grow our team and subsequent climate impact. As the Chief Operating Officer, you will be primarily responsible for ensuring internal execution scales effectively as Vaulted enters its next phase of growth through structuring and leading the technical departments responsible for site development through operations to align with our overarching business objectives and growth plans. Responsibilities include:
Strategic Oversight: oversee new site development, site construction and engineering, and slurry injection site operations including the development and implementation of operational strategies aligned with Vaulted’s overall goals
Process Optimization: streamline workflows and improve efficiency while managing cost across day-to-day operations of the organization
Cross-Functional Collaboration: facilitate collaboration between departments to ensure effective operations and communication
Budget Management: oversee operational budgets and ensure resources are allocated efficiently and effectively
Team Leadership: lead and motivate the management team of operational departments, fostering a culture of high performance, problem solving and continuous improvement
What You Will Bring To succeed in this role, and help the company to succeed in our mission, the Chief Operating Officer must be a field proven technical operator that owns and scales CRU delivery end-to-end. They must also thrive in a fast-paced startup environment with a growing team of ever-changing needs. In addition, we seek a candidate with:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field
15+ years experience in industrial field operations with increasing P&L and leadership responsibility within the energy, chemicals, waste, water, mining or environmental services
Proven experience leading large, distributed teams (e.g., multiple sites/plants/facilities)
Experience with regulatory permitting, safety systems, or injection operations
Proven ability to lead and develop a high performing, highly engaged site development and/or site construction team
Demonstrated ability and to tackle challenging problems
Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and the ability to operate hands-on in a lean team
Passion for and commitment to sustainability and the work of climate change mitigation. Knowledge of carbon removal is helpful, but not necessary
