Role Platform Engineer - EAG (Enterprise API Gateway)

translates high-level platform design into low-level technical design and is responsible for implementing, administering, supporting, and patching their platforms. Platform Engineers work closely with Solution Architects to enable the capabilities defined on roadmaps and blueprints supporting platform programs and initiatives. Platform Engineers are well versed in modern data, infrastructure, and integration platforms, industry best practices, and actively work on improving the reliability and scalability of infrastructure. Costco’s Enterprise API Gateway team is looking for a highly ambitious, self-motivated, experienced individual. The Platform Engineer’s responsibilities will include the automation of software builds, test and deployment systems, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Manages the platform on an ongoing basis while performing typical run functions like monitoring, patching, and support.

Leads and conducts code reviews, design reviews, testing, and debugging activities at the application level.

Conducts regular platform check-ups and reports inefficiencies to relevant business and technology stakeholders.

Collaborates with infrastructure and/or provisioning groups to stand up the platform.

Develops and instruments monitoring dashboards depicting platform health and performance.

Develops and builds scalable and generalized frameworks to support the integration of internal and third-party APIs.

Performs analysis on existing platform components to identify improvements to software development processes.

Delivers against business objectives by effectively managing and partnering with technology vendors.

Identifies, creates, and applies software development and security standards and practices.

Plans, designs, and documents software components.

Develops and operates end-to-end automated solutions for IT ops activities (including deployment, release management, monitoring, etc.).

Collaborates with Operations, Development, and QA functions to develop solutions that are pre-disposed to scalability and simplified maintenance.

Creates and manages Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

Maintains, extends, and builds automated CI and CD pipelines.

Demonstrates expertise in the deployment of integrated or stand-alone releases across multiple interconnected and dispersed applications.

Uses industry standard tools to improve and speed up delivery of our products and services.

Provides fast and thoughtful issue resolution by executing quick fixes or proactively identifying and solving problems related to builds in production environments.

Creates the pipeline to periodically generate code quality metrics.

Drives each team to be self-sufficient by providing tools and training and brings different teams together to work towards common goals.

Coordinates resources across technology functions to stand up and monitor environments.

Establishes workflows that use the automated pipelines for CI and CD.

Works closely with product and application teams to create version control branching strategy.

Develops tool integrations that allow for end-to-end traceability for application development (from requirements to code objects changed to meet the requirements).

Configures, maintains, and optimizes infrastructure in multi-cloud (Google and Azure).

Designs, implements, and manages reliable build/deployment/test automation systems.

Monitors official builds and drives infrastructure issues to resolution.

Uses tools such as Azure DevOps, Terraform, Jenkins, Puppet, Azure Test Labs, and GitHub Actions to improve and speed up delivery of our products and services.

Works with developers and the IT staff to oversee code releases.

Participates in release processes and contributes to tooling improvement.

Works with Product Owners to plan sprints; collaborates with Operations, Development, and QA functions to develop solutions that are predisposed to scalability and simplified maintenance.

Mentors and aids junior employees in the process by providing guidance and feedback to ensure growth.

Required

5+ years’ IT experience

3+ years’ experience with Automation and Orchestration tooling/technology (Azure DevOps, Terraform, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.)

3+ years’ software development and 3+ years of infrastructure experience. Knowledge of Agile Methodologies (scrum, kanban).

Experience supporting, maintaining, and monitoring pipelines (real time and batch).

Experience provisioning and managing cloud services required, Google preferred.

Solid understanding of development/coding methodologies.

Significant use of orchestration tool sets, such as Kubernetes, Ansible, and Docker.

Strong scripting skills (Bash, GO, Python, Powershell etc.).

Possesses high integrity, accountability, a positive attitude, and is willing to do what it takes to make the team successful.

Responsible, conscientious, organized, self-motivated, and able to work with limited supervision.

Detail-oriented and possesses strong problem-solving skills and ability to proactively analyze for potential future issues.

Able to support off-hours work as required, including weekends, holidays, and 24/7.

Recommended

Google Cloud, Terraform certification.

Experience developing and operating end-to-end automated solutions for IT operations activities (including deployment, release management, monitoring, etc.).

Demonstrated experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery.

Experience with APIs, API gateways (Apigee, DataPower) and Web services.

Knowledge of Information Security best practices and principles (certificates, encryption, etc.).

Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.

Level 1 - $85,000 - $110,000

Level 2 - $105,000 - $135,000

Level 3 - $130,000 - $160,000

Level SR - $150,000 - $190,000, Bonus and RSU eligible

Level Staff - $180,000 - $225,000, Bonus and RSU eligible
