Job Description Primary Function of Position:

The Performance Claims Clinical Development Engineer uses their in-depth knowledge of the da Vinci Surgical System to work with internal subject matter experts, product managers, and clinicians to define, develop, and validate marketing claims of da Vinci Surgical Systems, instruments, and accessories within our surgical robotic system platforms. They help research, develop, and evaluate the marketing claims of da Vinci Surgical System products including robotic systems, visualization platforms, instruments and accessories that ultimately improve the clinical outcome for patients. Their primary focus is to establish and validate the marketing claims of Intuitive's products. They will also investigate and develop high value clinical applications for Intuitive’s products, monitor the clinical needs and opportunities in the market, and conduct competitive product comparisons and analyses.

Responsibilities

Apply in-depth knowledge of the operating room environment and of the da Vinci Surgical Systems to become an expert within the company on the clinical application of Intuitive’s products

Work with marketing, engineering, and surgeons to identify clinical needs and understand comparative device value propositions

Manage the process for the evaluation, validation, and implementation of marketing claims for da Vinci Surgical System products

Identify potential product marketing claim ideas by applying an analytical approach to understanding the clinical needs of surgeons

Collaborate closely with product marketing, product development, clinical affairs, and regulatory to define and validate marketing claims for da Vinci Surgical System products

Write protocols and work instructions to conduct validation testing for da Vinci Surgical System and competitor products in order to validate the marketing claims of the product. Write test reports and white papers to archive test results and provide source material for marketing claims

Gather data, images, and use cases for the creation of promotional materials

Perform informal assessments of the clinical performance of prototype designs

Work with product management and product marketing to conduct product-specific “focus group” meetings with key customers at scientific conferences and in-house

Interview, observe, and collect data at key customer sites

Provide a clinical voice and evaluation to engineering projects of the existing da Vinci Surgical System platforms and Instrumentation

Maintain current knowledge of clinical applications of Intuitive’s products and transfer product knowledge to the customer interfacing groups as part of product and procedure launch activities

Collaborate with other organizations within the company as needed, including new product development, regulatory, quality, marketing, human factors, training, and sales

Keep Intuitive’s vision and values at the forefront of decision making

Perform other duties as required to support the company’s overall strategy and goals

Qualifications

Minimum of B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or similar, advanced degree preferred

Minimum of 5 years of experience in medical device industry with a B.S, 3 years experience with an M.S, or a PhD without experience

Experience working with surgeons in an operating room environment

Experience with clinical and/or market research

Fluent in surgical terminology and sound knowledge of anatomy and surgical technique

Excellent mechanical aptitude and intuition for spatial relations, including the ability to understand complex mechanical products

Excellent analytical capability and practical skills to develop test methods and draw conclusions

Excellent teamwork skills with proven ability to cultivate collaboration across multiple disciplines

Effective communication skills (verbal, written, presentation)

Capable of making decisions in the presence of ambiguity

Proven success recognizing critical issues and driving them to closure by taking coordinated action

Self-starter needing minimal supervision

Self-confident and able to react quickly under pressure

Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, internationally and domestic

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target salary ranges are listed.
