Senior Engineer, Firmware

Samsung Semiconductor . Location: Daily onsite presence at our San Jose, CA office / U.S. headquarters in alignment with our Flexible Work policy. The Technology Enabling Development Lab (TED) focuses on the host interface firmware layer that sits at the intersection of system software and flash management firmware, driving Samsung’s breakthrough V-NAND technology and enabling performance-oriented, enterprise-class applications ranging from hyper-scale data centers to software-defined storage arrays and infrastructures. Responsibilities
Design and development of high performance firmware and software for cutting-edge enterprise SSD products. Debug, optimize, and validate SSD firmware on complex embedded multi-core architectures. Support customer qualification and adoption of SSD products. Participate in ground-breaking advanced SSD storage development and research projects. Qualifications
BS in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with 5+ years of working experiences in silicon development or MS in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with 3+ years of relevant working experience or PhD and 0+ years of relevant experience in storage firmware development is required. Strong programming experience and proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems, including development of algorithms and highly optimized code, is required. Relevant hands-on experience in embedded software or firmware development, including storage devices or other embedded platforms is required. Experience with one or more storage technologies: NVM Express, PCI Express, SAS, SCSI, NAND Flash/FTL, Fibre Channel, SATA, eMMC, or UFS is beneficial. Experience with ARM or equivalent embedded multi-core microprocessor architectures is required. Hands-on experience with JTAG/ICE debuggers and protocol analyzers is required. Some scripting experience in Python/Perl/JavaScript is desirable. Familiarity with modern agile software development methodologies is preferred. The pay range below is for all roles at this level across all US locations. Individual pay rates depend on role function, location, knowledge, skills, experience, education, and training. We also offer incentive opportunities that reward employees based on individual and company performance.
