Accounting Manager
with a strong background in nonprofits to join our client's team in Washington, D.C (hybrid opportunity). Key Responsibilities
Manage all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations. Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and fund accounting principles. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including IRS filings (e.g., Form 990), state charitable registration, and grant reporting. Oversee and maintain internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure accurate financial records. Collaborate with development and program teams to track and report on restricted and unrestricted funding. Lead the annual audit process, working closely with external auditors and preparing all necessary documentation. Support the budgeting process and provide financial insights to program managers and leadership. Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering professional development and efficiency within the team. Monitor cash flow and recommend strategies for maintaining financial sustainability. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred). 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a non-profit environment. Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting standards, fund accounting, and financial reporting requirements. Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or Blackbaud Financial Edge. Familiarity with grant management and donor reporting requirements. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
