Veeco serves our world-class global customer base through our dedicated sales and service organization strategically located throughout Asia, Europe, and North America. Veeco continues to grow and is looking for a Staff Process Development Engineer for our San Jose, CA location.

Responsibilities

Lead process and application development using Veeco's unique ion beam deposition and pre-clean technologies

Lead interdisciplinary team of Process Engineers, Design Engineers, and Manufacturing Engineers to improve deposition toolset particle baselines and resolve particle excursions

Manage the development of advanced thin film processes intersecting with customers current and future requirements; own the design of experiment, execution and data analysis

Lead and manage internal R&D projects by developing success criteria, generating test plans, and gathering supporting data

Develop and maintain best known methods (BKMs) for process control, process development and continuous improvement. Drive adoption of BKMs and new applications

Engage with customers as the technical expert, help Marketing and Sales establish strong technical partnerships at key accounts

Engage in N+1, N+2 tool and feature requirements with a contribution to MRD

Develop new upgrades and hardware in coordination with Engineering for Veeco's unique deposition and pre-clean technologies

Perform improvements/maintenance on equipment sets as needed and operate the metrology equipment to gather data in support of your experiments.

Follow all safety protocols for tool operation and maintenance and repairs.

Qualifications Master's degree in a Technical Field (Electrical, Electronics, Physics, Materials Science or Chemical Engineering desired) and 8+ years of related experience or a PhD with 5+ years of related experience. Must have process development experience, expertise with vacuum thin film technology and expertise in advanced node Logic and/or Memory deposition particle reduction and particle excursion resolution. Expertise with thin film characterization techniques such as four-point probe, stress measurements, ellipsometry, absorption/transmission spectroscopy, XRD/XRR, depth profilers, etc. is also required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Capital equipment & semiconductor device knowledge and module process, process integration experience in logic and/or memory fabrication is highly desired

Background in metal and semiconductor thin films technologies and experience working in semiconductor or similar cleanroom fabs is highly preferred

Self-directed and possess excellent interpersonal/communication skills

Disciplined and effective problem solving and influence skills proven through experience leading process and product improvement teams

Must have the ability to work and collaborate in a matrixed organization and adapt quickly to change

Proficient computer skills, including MS Office and ability to learn other software packages for equipment operation and data collection

Ability to travel domestic & internationally approximately 25% of the time

Salary and Benefits The expected salary range for this position is $164,000-$218,000, plus a bonus opportunity.
