Sr. Staff Systems Engineer, Firmware & Embedded
CoStar Group is seeking a highly experienced Senior Staff Embedded Firmware Architect to lead the design, development, and optimization of embedded firmware for our next-generation hardware products. This role requires deep technical expertise in embedded systems, leadership in cross-functional engineering efforts, and the ability to architect firmware that is robust, scalable, and efficient. This position is in Sunnyvale, CA and onsite Monday through Friday. What You Will Do
Design and implement high-quality, low-level firmware for embedded systems (e.g., microcontrollers, SoCs, RTOS-based platforms). Lead firmware architecture design and code reviews, ensuring scalability, modularity, and maintainability. Collaborate closely with hardware, systems, and product teams to define requirements and integration strategies. Drive root-cause analysis, debugging, and resolution of complex hardware–software integration issues. Mentor junior engineers and guide best practices for firmware development (e.g., CI/CD, version control, documentation). Develop and maintain automated test infrastructure for embedded software validation. Stay current with industry trends and contribute to strategic technical direction for embedded systems. Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. 10+ years of experience in embedded firmware development. Proficiency in C/C++ for resource-constrained environments. Strong knowledge of real-time operating systems (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr, ThreadX) and bare-metal systems. Experience with hardware bring-up, board support packages (BSP), and interfacing with peripherals (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB); experience in application development for testing embedded system interfaces (iOS/Android); experience in setting up build systems. Proficient with debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, etc.). Preferred Qualifications
Experience with wireless protocols (BLE, Wi‑Fi, Zigbee, etc.). Background in Python, Rust, or scripting for automation. Experience in leading technical projects and working in Agile teams. Experience in robotics and motion control systems (ROS1, ROS2). Experience with FPGA tools and high-speed timing applications; DSP and computer vision algorithms. Perks & Benefits

This position offers an annual OTE pay range from $198,700 to $294,200, determined by relevant skills and experience, in addition to uncapped commission opportunities and a generous benefits plan. Sponsorship Statement
