Overview
Senior Mechanical Engineer at Ghafari Associates. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide, revise or extend mechanical systems for new construction and/or renovation of industrial, commercial or institutional structures as requested by the client. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will develop construction drawings and specifications which address the installation, integration, interconnection and control of mechanical components within the standard building codes.
Responsibilities
Develop and establish project scope, mechanical budget, necessary constraints and design approach with project manager and/or client
Communicate effectively in design team and owner meetings and direct communication with the owner and/or owner’s representative
Develop feasibility studies and project cost estimates
Maintain working knowledge of latest building codes and standards in the industry
Formulate and lead design of mechanical systems including HVAC, piping, plumbing, and fire protection
Perform and/or review calculations and energy models; design mechanical systems including HVAC, piping, plumbing, and fire protection
Create engineering documents using CAD technology (Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD) or manually with support from junior staff
Edit or draft project specifications
Conduct field measurements and site checks
Review drawings for omissions, errors, interferences, overall quality, content accuracy and code compliance
Review product submittals for design content and specify actions to reach specification compliance
Maintain organized project files and calculations
Prepare project file updates, transmittals, letters, reports, and reproduction requests
Assist with checking, standards review, and maintenance of master specifications
Monitor production and quality of construction documents per company standards, individually and for junior staff
Develop and mentor less experienced staff
Perform related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related field required
Professional Registration
LEED Accredited Professional preferred
Experience
15+ years of related experience in mechanical engineering (HVAC/building systems)
Experience as a lead engineer on projects of varying sizes
Skills/Competencies
Proficient with Revit and AutoCAD, Trane Trace 700 or other building energy calculation software, and Bluebeam
Proficiency in BIM360 and Carrier HAP is a bonus
Excellent written and verbal communication
Strong attention to detail
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform essential job functions as described and listed in this description
Spend most of the workday sitting or standing while working at a computer
Ability to drive to different work sites
