We are seeking a technically proficient GenAI data scientist with deep implementation experience in building and evaluating GenAI systems, and a proven ability to stay at the forefront of tools and techniques in the evolving AI landscape.

This role offers a Hybrid or Remote work schedule. Candidates living near our locations are expected to work in-office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Responsibilities:

  1. Support The Hartford’s AI innovation strategy to identify and implement high-end use cases, ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry trends.
  2. Support the enterprise's AI vision and roadmap to position The Hartford as a leader in AI for the insurance industry.
  3. Partner with stakeholders across Data Science, Technology, and Business units to align objectives and drive innovation to improve underwriting and sales productivity.
  4. Design and build GenAI solutions for tasks such as summarization, question answering, search, and data synthesis.
  5. Rapidly prototype using cutting-edge tools like VertexAI, LangChain, RAG frameworks, HuggingFace, and OpenAI APIs.
  6. Research and recommend novel foundation model options, tools, and libraries to enhance performance and reliability.
  7. Develop evaluation pipelines for generative outputs, combining automatic metrics, human feedback, and LLM-based assessment methods.
  8. Collaborate with ML Ops to ensure best practices for scalable training and deployment.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Engineering, or related fields.
  • 3+ years industry experience in machine learning or data science, with at least 1 year focused on GenAI.
  • Proven experience with GenAI tools such as Vertex AI, LangChain, RAG frameworks, HuggingFace, OpenAI APIs.
  • Strong understanding of prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, agent workflows, and LLM evaluation.
  • Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks like PyTorch and TensorFlow.
  • Experience with vector databases (Chroma, Pinecone) and cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship. No STEM OPT I-983 endorsement support.

Compensation:

The annualized base pay ranges from $90,160 to $166,080, based on market analysis and individual experience and performance. Compensation may include bonuses, incentives, and recognition awards. The posted range reflects flexibility in titles and levels based on background.
