Equipment Operator Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Physically and mentally competent to perform manual labor tasks, such as operating manpowered or motorized grass cutting equipment Capable of understanding and carrying out oral or written instructions for skilled and unskilled duties Experience in operating complex equipment Valid Mississippi motor vehicle operator's license Must be insurable by the district insurance carrier Pass drug screening test as outlined by district policy Reports To Site Care Supervisor Essential Functions Performs routine grounds maintenance jobs involving a variety of skilled duties Cuts lawn, using power mowers and tractors with single or three sectional rotary clippers or hand mowers Operates such equipment as end loader, tractor with grader blade to do landscaping and tract remodeling, parking lot repairs Picks up trash and debris from grounds, walks, parking lots, play areas, and athletic fields and hauls to dump site Prunes shrubs and hedges to shape and enhance appearance of shrubs Rakes and removes leaves and straw, cleans ditches, culverts, storm drains, gutters, and downspouts and hauls debris to dump site Sprays shrubs and trees with insecticide or herbicide when necessary and fertilizes Waters lawns, shrubs, and athletic fields during dry periods by hose or portable sprinkler system Operates vehicles as needed Performs other related duties as requested or assigned Salary Information Days Employed: 241 per school year Beginning Salary: $12.50-$24.50 Exception: JPS employees should refer to the Classified Employee Pay Scale Rules of Administration and Implementation.
