This position is open to the public, International Union of Operating Engineers (Local 302) members, and any current Municipal Employees. This position is represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 302, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

Example of Duties

Under general supervision, performs manual labor tasks and operates medium equipment during street maintenance operations. Equipment includes but is not limited to: flusher trucks, pothole patch trucks, and all specialized and non-specialized truck, rotary brooms, rollers under 5 tons, compactors, fork lifts, small loaders, asphalt rakers, pipe layers, and other light equipment as assigned. Street maintenance operations include but are not limited to: concrete and paving repairs, pothole patching, street sweeping, brushing, hauling materials, and draining work and repairs. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and two (2) years' experience in the operation of equipment, one (1) year of which must have been operating medium equipment. Must possess and/or obtain:

  • Valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tank endorsement at time of hire.
  • Satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • Satisfactory drug screening at time of hire.
  • Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.

Preference:

  • Flagger certification.
  • Certified Erosion Sediment Control

The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual's command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service.
