JOB SUMMARY: Performs responsible skilled work within maintenance, repair, modification, installation and construction of structures in buildings and facilities; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor with some input or recommendations from the Master Electrician. Supervision is exercised over tradesworkers and helpers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: ? Perform skilled maintenance, repair and construction of District buildings and equipment in one or more crafts or trades; lead other Maintenance Technicians as necessary; work independently in advanced trades such as electrical, plumbing, steam fitter, electrical motor repair, welding and engine rebuilding. ? Perform a variety of skilled work in the maintenance and repair of District facilities and equipment; prioritize, schedule, assign and coordinate the work of assigned staff to accomplish a wide variety of duties related to the building trades. ? May have to perform various refrigeration, plumbing and heating-related duties; cut, thread, assemble and lay pipe; assist in the purchase, installation, repair and maintenance of various plumbing, heating and air conditioning fixtures; perform welding and metal fabrication; diagnose and repair electronic ignition systems for heaters, furnaces and hot water heaters. ? Assist in the purchase process, installation, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring and fixtures; perform trouble-shooting to repair or replace fan and motors; perform repairs to motors, bells, clocks and lighting circuits and to communication and audiovisual equipment. ? Estimate cost of labor and materials for work orders; obtain competitive prices for equipment and supplies needed by the District. ? Perform skilled maintenance and repair on mechanical and electrical equipment; test and replace circuits; coordinate emergency repairs and large complex projects; troubleshoot and correct defective switches, receptacles, ballasts and other wiring; perform routine mechanical and electrical maintenance. ? Operate a variety of equipment and machines including saws, drill presses and various hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance work; maintain tools and equipment in a safe, clean and proper working condition. ? Assure compliance with appropriate safety practices and procedures and with applicable federal, state, and local codes, regulations and requirements. ? Maintain various records related to labor, materials, and work orders. ? Purchase tools, equipment and materials; operate light trucks to pick up and deliver equipment and supplies. ? Perform related and other duties as needed within the department of Facilities/Maintenance.

J OB SPECIFICATIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: General knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and servicing assigned vehicles and related equipment; general knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; general knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.

Thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools and terminology of the mechanical or building trades to which assigned; thorough knowledge of the use and characteristic of common building materials; thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precaution associated withassigned trade.

This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and some heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from High School / GEDand a minimum of 5 years hands-on experience. Must possess a valid Journeyman certification.
