Job Title: Sheet Metal Mechanic
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Mechanic with extensive experience in both commercial and naval sheet metal work. This role involves working in the installation of foundations, ventilation systems, bulkheads, shipboard furniture, and engaging in sheet metal fabrication shop tasks.
Responsibilities
Install and fabricate sheet metal components including foundations, ventilation, bulkheads, and shipboard furniture.
Interpret and comprehend complex ventilation assembly drawings, blueprints, and sketches, including weld symbols, material types, and reference lines.
Layoff piece parts for fabrication and assembly with precision.
Assemble piece parts in accordance with specifications, maintaining high-quality standards.
Operate in a physically demanding environment, adhering to OSHA regulations applicable to the shipbuilding industry.
Utilize small hand tools such as electric drills, grinders, and rivet guns, as well as shop equipment like drill presses and press brakes.
Essential Skills
Four years of experience as a first-class Sheet Metal Worker in commercial or naval settings.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex drawings and blueprints.
Ability to comprehend fractional and decimal dimensions using a ruler.
Experience in a physically demanding work environment.
Familiarity with OSHA regulations related to shipbuilding.
Skill in using small hand tools and shop equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with shipbuilding ventilation systems.
Knowledge of different material types and welding symbols.

Work Environment
The position is based in a shipyard located in Southeast Virginia, where the climate is hot and muggy in the summer and cool in the winter. Work will be conducted either on a Navy vessel or within a shop environment. Flexible shift options include a 1st shift from 7 am to 3:30 pm, a 2nd shift from 3:30 pm to 11 pm, and a 3rd shift from 11 pm to 7 am.

This is a Contract position based out of Newport News, Virginia.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $27.31/hr.
