The University of Georgia Facilities Management Division is the largest of seven (7) divisions reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Administration. The exceptional staff of over 900 personnel within the division manage, operate and maintain campus landscapes, buildings and infrastructure to promote the long-term sustainability of the University.

Position Summary

This is painting work of journeyman level. Work includes assignments requiring employment of all standard trade practices and skills. The work often includes finishing surfaces where standards of beauty, harmony, and workmanship are exacting. The work is performed under general direction and is subject to inspection while in progress and upon completion for appearance and durability.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

• Considerable knowledge of the characteristics and uses including mixing and blending of various kinds of paints, varnishes, enamel, and shellacs. • Considerable knowledge of proper methods of preparing various surfaces for painting and finishing. • Some knowledge of glazing and paper hanging techniques. • Skill in painting with hand brushes, rollers, and spray guns. • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and all other duties as required by supervisor and/or foreman.

Physical Demands

• Ability stand, walk, stoop, squat, climb stairs, work from standard, extended ladders and/or scaffolding and lift up to 75 lbs. during a normal 8-hour work shift. • Ability to work under adverse weather conditions (heat, rain cold)

Duties/Responsibilities

Duties/Responsibilities

Cleans and prepares surfaces to be painted by use of sandpaper, steel wool, scraper or soap and water. Sandblasts surfaces preparatory to painting.

Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities

Paints interior and exterior walls and ceilings of buildings with brush roller or spray gun, as required. May varnish, stain, shellac or otherwise finish desks, doors, cabinets, moldings and floors.

Trims windows and doors. Caulks cracks and glazes windows.

Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities

Mixes paint, varnishes, shellacs and enamels. Cleans and stores brushes.
