GENERAL SUMMARY Under general supervision, performs installation, maintenance, and repair of food service equipment in commercial kitchens. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, including universal EPA certification for handling refrigerants, to ensure all equipment operates efficiently and complies with safety and environmental regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Equipment Installation: Install new food service equipment, including refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, and other kitchen appliances. Ensure proper setup and calibration according to manufacturer specifications. Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks to keep equipment in optimal working condition. This includes cleaning, lubrication, and adjusting components as needed. Repairs and Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair malfunctions in food service equipment. Address mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues promptly to minimize downtime and maintain operational efficiency. Refrigerant Handling: Utilize universal EPA certification to safely handle and service refrigeration systems. Ensure compliance with all federal and local regulations regarding refrigerant use and disposal. Safety Compliance: Ensure all food service equipment adheres to safety standards and health regulations. Implement and enforce safety protocols to prevent accidents and protect staff and equipment. Documentation: Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair activities, including parts used, labor hours, and equipment status. Provide regular updates and reports to the Operation Specialist. Parts Management: Manage inventory of replacement parts and tools. Order parts as needed and ensure all components meet quality standards. Training and Support: Train kitchen staff on the proper use and maintenance of food service equipment. Offer support and guidance to ensure equipment is used safely and effectively. Emergency Response: Provide on-call support for urgent repair situations. Respond quickly to emergency maintenance requests, especially during peak operational times.

Upgrades and Recommendations: Evaluate equipment performance and recommend upgrades or replacements as necessary. Assist in the installation and setup of new equipment.

Willingly performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

JOB

SPECIFICATIONS Education and Experience High school diploma and one year of work experience in maintaining and repairing food service equipment in a commercial or industrial setting, and/or general maintenance; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Technical certification or training in food service equipment maintenance preferred. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license.

Qualifications may vary from the above requirements to such a degree as the Superintendent determines necessary and appropriate to ensure properly qualified personnel in the position.

Knowledge Thorough knowledge of school District policies and procedures pertinent to the duties of the job. Knowledge of methods, procedures, policies and activities related to warehouse activities. Knowledge of the records and reports which must be prepared and maintained. Possesses knowledge of inventory control/management and the use of computers for the entry and maintenance of data. Knowledge of basic clerical functions and modern office procedures and equipment.

Skills/Effort Ability to understand and apply district policies and procedures. Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics. Computer knowledge in Windows, Word, and Excel. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, district employees and the general public. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to perform duties effectively and accurately while maintaining schedules and deadlines. Skilled in applying a responsible attention to detail.

Working Conditions Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors with exposure to heat, cold, dusts, and heights. Physical demands include heavy physical effort (lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.), manual dexterity and mobility; prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing and walking; pushing/pulling or moving/lifting heavy equipment or supplies; and considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Must be able to operate a variety of light duty equipment and drive a vehicle. Works with and handles various chemicals. Local travel is required.
