Description
Under general supervision, operates various heavy equipment and performs general labor duties of the Streets and Stormwater Division. Examples of Duties
Heavy Equipment Operation and General Labor: Performs equipment operations for various equipment, such as street sweeper, bulldozer, loader, grading tractor, dump truck, bucket truck, bush hog, vac truck, etc. Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles/equipment prior to operation to include but not limited to, safety equipment check, vehicle walk-around, appropriate pre-operation maintenance. Insures safe practices are incorporated in all activities performed. Utilizes and maintains various types of equipment and tools in a safe manner. Performs general maintenance duties for roads and streets including sweeping streets; checking lights on poles, trimming trees; hauling and spreading dirt, gravel and/or rock; digging stumps and ditches; hauling trees and trash; and bush hogging. Ensures that work area is clean, neat and safe. Insures safe practices are incorporated in all activities performed.
Operates and Maintains hand and tools in a safe and effective manner: Performs hand/power tool operations for various tools, such as: pitchfork, shovel, rake, chainsaw, etc. Performs preventative maintenance on tools prior to performing assigned duties to include but not limited to, safety equipment check and appropriate pre-operation maintenance.
Internal and external communications: Responds to citizen and internal personnel inquiries and complaints in a timely and courteous manner by referring to appropriate supervisory personnel. Remains diplomatic and is effective in dealing with customers in a variety of situations.
Performs All Other Duties as Required: Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION High School Diploma or GED Equivalency required. Vocational/specialized training in heavy equipment operations is preferred. EXPERIENCE At least one year experience in heavy equipment operations is required. Two or more years experience in heavy equipment operations is preferred. LICENSURE Valid Florida Commercial Drivers' License and Class "B" (CDL) License with Air Brake Endorsement required.
