Data Storage Engineer Location: New York, NY Duration: Long Term Summary: The Data Storage Engineer will be responsible for managing and maintaining the organization's data storage infrastructure. This includes ensuring that data is securely stored, reliably accessible, and efficiently maintained. The engineer will lead the design and implementation of robust storage and backup solutions, and will optimize performance through effective load balancing, clustering, data replication, and configuration management practices. Key Responsibilities: Design, implement, and maintain storage architecture to meet the agencys data and application availability, performance, and retention needs. Manage and maintain enterprise SAN/NAS storage systems, including provisioning, monitoring, performance tuning, and lifecycle management. Implement and oversee backup and recovery strategies (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, NetBackup), ensuring business continuity and compliance with data retention policies. Configure and support data replication, load balancing, and server clustering solutions to enhance system resiliency and disaster recovery readiness. Manage storage-related automation and configuration management through tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or PowerShell scripting. Monitor storage health and usage patterns; proactively respond to performance bottlenecks or capacity thresholds. Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, and database teams to ensure integrated system performance. Maintain accurate technical documentation, SOPs, inventory records, and data diagrams for infrastructure components. Enforce data security, access control, and encryption policies across storage environments. Stay current with emerging storage technologies and best practices; propose and implement system upgrades and optimizations. Participate in audits, security reviews, and compliance reporting. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience). 35 years of experience in enterprise data storage engineering, administration, or architecture. Hands-on experience with SAN, NAS, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel technologies from vendors such as Dell EMC, NetApp, Hitachi, or Pure Storage. Proficiency with storage-related protocols and technologies (NFS, SMB, CIFS, RAID, ZFS, Ceph, etc.). Experience implementing and managing data backup, disaster recovery, and high availability solutions. Familiarity with scripting and automation (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python) for storage provisioning and reporting. Understanding of networking principles (TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls) as they relate to storage access and replication. Preferred Qualifications: Certifications such as NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA), Dell EMC Storage Administrator, or AWS Certified Storage Specialty. Experience with hybrid or cloud-based storage solutions (e.g., AWS S3/Glacier, Azure Blob, Google Cloud Storage). Knowledge of ITIL processes, change management, and enterprise ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow). Government or public sector experience managing mission-critical storage infrastructure. Exposure to regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA, CJIS, FISMA) affecting data storage, security, and access. #J-18808-Ljbffr
