Database Administrator

Apex has an opportunity for a Database Administrator. As a database administrator, you will report to the Manager of Database Administration and play a substantive role in implementing, managing, securing database technology and exploring methods to implement database tuning and performance optimization. The database administrator will assist with the development and contribute to policies and procedures to ensure the security and integrity of approximately 40+ mission-critical on-prem and cloud databases. Along with technological expertise, this individual should have a customer service disposition. This individual should be comfortable in a fast-paced setting and be able to foster a congenial team environment. Responsibilities include: coordinating the monitoring of the database health and performance and troubleshooting issues and implementing optimizations; assisting with migration from older database versions to newer versions; assisting with database server infrastructure and software analysis and recommendations; participating in projects associated with the enhancement, upgrade/patching, or implementation of new or existing technology solutions; supporting database maintenance and disaster recovery processes; assisting with database setup, configuration, and upgrades; ensuring databases are backed up appropriately and can be restored if necessary; maintaining database access security and database integrity; staying abreast of the latest developments in database administration and applying innovative approaches to solve database administration challenges; performing final review and approving the scheduled database tasks; and collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities and ensure the robustness and security of database administration implementations. The primary work location for this role will be at 10 Park Plaza, Boston, Massachusetts 02116. This position would be expected to follow a hybrid model of reporting to work that combines in-office workdays and work from home days as needed. Basic qualifications include: 3+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar database management role; work experience with relational database management systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, AWS Aurora, Oracle, or PostgreSQL; work experience working in Linux, Windows environments and with AWS database technologies; work experience with database design, schema development, and optimization techniques; work experience with database backup and recovery techniques, including high availability configurations; work experience with performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting techniques; knowledge of database security practices, including user roles, access controls, and encryption; experience with cloud-based database environments such as AWS RDS and/or EC2; experience with Structured Query Language (SQL) and GitHub version control; development of clean, readable, and easy to support Python code; excellent communication skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders; customer-focused orientation with proficiency in iterative development practices; and self-starter and comfortable working autonomously. Preferred qualifications include: 5+ years of work experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar database management role; bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or related field; work experience with cloud data warehouse systems such as AWS Redshift, or Snowflake; work experience in Python, R, Java, C++; certifications in database technologies such as Microsoft Certified: Database Administrator, or Oracle DBA; and knowledge in designing Data Governance solutions with Informatica Data Quality, Data Lineage, and Data Catalogs.
