Overview The HDR Power Generation team is growing to meet strong demand for utility-scale power and renewable energy projects. The Senior Electrical Power Engineer will lead design projects that include power generation and distribution, protection and motor control design, power system studies, and balance-of-plant design, and may serve as Owner’s Engineer or Advisor to clients. Responsibilities
Lead teams for power generation design projects, including power generation and distribution, protection and motor control design, power system studies, and balance-of-plant design (e.g., raceway, lighting, grounding). Serve in a traditional Owner’s Engineer role or as Advisor to clients, helping contract and implement natural gas and renewable-energy generation projects. Mentor junior engineers, support client relationship management, and lead marketing activities such as technical proposals, fee development, and work-breakdown structure creation in response to RFPs. Provide design and engineering of record for power plant systems and contribute to project reviews with management; collaborate with Project Manager and Project Controller. Travel as needed (expected less than 10%). Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with an Electrical Power emphasis. Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical power generation design; Professional Engineer license (PE or P.Eng). Experience with simple-cycle and combined-cycle power generation; design experience in power generation projects. Strong communication, written and organizational skills. Extensive knowledge of three-phase power, protection and control design and settings, grounding, and related systems; experience with lighting and life-safety systems. Proficiency with standard software such as Microsoft Office and industry tools (e.g., PLS-CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPIPE, Revit). Ability to work independently as a lead on multi-disciplinary teams and mentor staff. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems with Electrical Power emphasis. 15+ years of experience in electrical power generation design. Experience with engineering in a power consulting or EPC firm is desired. Strong leadership and project-management abilities; ability to manage client relationships and proposal development. Experience with power-generation project integration, including protection, control, grounding, and related systems. Willingness to travel as required (less than 10%).
