Responsibilities The Manager in the Risk Advisory department is responsible for managing engagements, specifically Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, internal audit, risk assessments, and other process improvement projects. The Manager in Risk Advisory department leads teams of professionals in the completion of engagements, from planning through fieldwork and reporting to management, while providing value-added recommendations that enable clients to meet their organizational objectives while effectively managing risk. The Manager in Risk Advisory will also participate in business development and firm initiatives, and support recruiting and hiring efforts at the university and experienced levels.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises the day-to-day workload of members of the Risk Advisory services team on assigned engagements and reviews work deliverables.

Ensures performance of all Risk Advisory team members on trained competencies.

Evaluates the performance of Risk Advisory team members on an annual basis.

Delivers regular performance feedback to Risk Advisory team members on engagement performance and overall performance against competencies.

Acts as a Career Advisor to assigned Risk Advisory professionals.

May act as a mentor to Risk Advisory professionals or other Miller Kaplan team members on an informal basis.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Acts as a primary contact for all clients regarding all questions and information, including project status, challenges and issues identified, budget and billing status, and requests for additional services.

Facilitates meetings between management and other stakeholders throughout the engagement process.

Lead Risk Advisory engagements from initiation to completion including project planning and budgeting, scheduling of resources, conducting fieldwork and preparing test workpapers, evaluating issues and providing value-added recommendations, and reporting on the results of work to stakeholders.

Effectively communicates project status, control gaps, and recommendations to client management.

Analyzes the client’s processes, risks, and controls.

Provides exceptional client service and develops strong working relationships that support a collaborative approach to project execution.

Prepares engagement budgets and identifies opportunities to enhance engagement effectiveness and profitability.

Manages engagements to achieve planned profitability and support team members meeting their utilization goals.

Supports the preparation of draft proposals and presents to prospective client personnel using a collaborative team approach.

Participates in the development and delivery of training material, when possible and appropriate.

Acts with a positive attitude in all professional settings, fostering a culture of psychological safety, growth, and proactive problem-solving.

Perform other related duties and projects as assigned.

Education and Experience Education and Experience - Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Business, or Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or other related field.

Five or more years of experience within a public accounting firm or Fortune 1000 company performing internal audits, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance, operational audits, compliance, enterprise risk management (including risk assessments), or management consulting.

2-3 years of prior supervisory experience, required.

Prior experience planning internal audits, developing audit programs, conducting fieldwork, preparing work papers, and drafting audit reports, required.

Prior experience performing risk assessments, process reviews, systems reviews, and reviews of business process and information technology (IT) processes, required.

Prior experience implementing Sarbanes-Oxley programs, performing walkthroughs, documenting internal controls in process narrative and flowchart form, designing and testing internal controls over financial reporting, assessing and evaluating control deficiencies, required.

Prior experience recruiting and interviewing university-level and experienced hire candidates, required.

Prior experience establishing project budgets, monitoring project economics, reporting on budget vs. actual performance, and invoicing clients on a timely basis, required.

Prior business development experience, drafting and presenting proposals, required.

Prior experience presenting to Audit Committees and Board of Directors, required.

Certified Internal Audit (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or other equivalent certifications, required.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.

Travel (up to 30%) to client sites as needed.
