Overview Our client, a longstanding Houston-based nonprofit organization that provides programs, services and employment opportunities for the blind and low vision community, is hiring a Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This key executive is responsible for leading the organization’s financial operations, accounting functions, and human resources. This role supports the organization’s mission by ensuring financial stability, regulatory compliance, and the growth and development of high-performing teams. Responsibilities

Lead and oversee all accounting operations, including accounts receivable/payable, general ledger management, payroll, investment roll forwards and month-end close activities. Direct financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management to support organizational objectives. Develop, implement, and update financial policies, accounting practices, and process improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance. Oversee cash management and forecasting to ensure adequate liquidity and financial sustainability in alignment with the organization's strategic goals. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as accounting standards (GAAP) and organizational policies. Coordinate the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements and strategic plans for executive leadership, the Board of Directors finance committee and other associated Board of Directors. Work closely with the Board finance chair to coordinate the finance committee meetings. Oversee and coordinate year-end audit and 990 processes and quarterly reviews, liaising with external auditors as needed. Provide guidance and leadership to the accounting, finance, and human resource teams, including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and ongoing professional development. Provide guidance and leadership in all aspects of human resource functions, including employee relations, policy implementation, and payroll administration. Champion a culture of continuous learning, teamwork, and adaptability within the accounting, finance and HR departments. Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment between financial operations, human resources, and organizational strategy. Maintain a high level of confidentiality and demonstrate ethical leadership in all financial and HR matters. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field required MBA or equivalent graduate degree preferred Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in nonprofit accounting and finance, with at least 2 years in management or supervisory role Nonprofit sector experience strongly preferred Demonstrated experience in managing accounting teams Demonstrated experience or familiarity with human resources functions Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; advanced skills in Microsoft Excel required Experience with accounting, finance, and payroll software and information management systems Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial regulatory compliance Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation abilities with an aptitude for team leadership and cross-departmental collaboration CPA designation is optional Seniority level
