Intellectual Property Counsel (Part-Time) – Washington, D.C. Caplin & Drysdale is seeking an experienced attorney to handle trademark and copyright matters primarily for clients of our tax-exempt organizations group. While this is considered a permanent part-time position, candidates with a portable client portfolio may be considered for a full-time position.

Advising clients on a range of issues related to management of IP portfolios, with an emphasis on trademark matters, including: advising clients on trademark rights, trademark clearance and risk assessment, registration of marks in USPTO, prosecution of trademark applications and maintaining registrations, handling trademark disputes and infringement claims, and negotiating and drafting license and related agreements. Experience handling opposition and cancellation proceedings is beneficial. Responsibilities in the area of copyright include negotiating and drafting intellectual property provisions in contracts, including consulting agreements, grant agreements and license agreements. Knowledge of data privacy laws and experience drafting privacy policies and website terms of use is beneficial but not required. Knowledge of international laws and treaties governing intellectual property is beneficial but not required. Qualifications
7+ years of experience in IP law; ability to work independently including dealing directly with clients, meeting trademark deadlines, and training and supervising paralegals and associates. Excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and relevant experience. Barred in DC or eligible to waive into DC.
