Please note: This position will include supporting our US Public Sector customers. This position requires passing a ServiceNow background screening, USFedPASS (US Federal Personnel Authorization Screening Standards). This includes a credit check, criminal/misdemeanor check and taking a drug test. Any employment is contingent upon passing the screening. Due to Federal requirements, only US citizens, US naturalized citizens or US Permanent Residents, holding a green card, will be considered. About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Systems Engineer to join our Mail & Messaging team in Systems Engineering. This role goes beyond automation scriptingour ideal candidate will be a seasoned developer capable of building and maintaining robust, scalable systems and services. You'll work on complex backend components that power our mail infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on Python development (or comparable languages). Key Responsibilities: Architect, develop, and maintain backend systems and services supporting Mail & Messaging infrastructure. Write production-grade code in Python (or JavaScript, Java, or Go) to support scalable, high-performance systems. Design and implement APIs, service integrations, and backend logic for mail-related services. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system reliability, scalability, and maintainability. Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across the stackfrom infrastructure to application logic. Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and architectural planning. Contribute to automation and configuration management using tools like Ansible or Puppet. Build orchestration workflows by leveraging features of the ServiceNow platform. Support containerized deployments and CI/CD pipelines. Qualifications
To be successful in this role you have: Experience in leveraging or critically thinking about how to integrate AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving. This may include using AI-powered tools, automating workflows, analyzing AI-driven insights, or exploring AI's potential impact on the function or industry. Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience. Strong experience with Linux and Linux-based services running at scale. Advanced proficiency in Python, with the ability to design and implement complex systems. Experience working on mail systems is highly desirable. Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible or Puppet is a plus. Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus. Strong understanding of distributed systems, networking, and system performance. Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills. Strong communication and collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure). Knowledge of security best practices in systems and application development. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. For positions in this location, we offer a base pay of $147,300 - $257,800, plus equity (when applicable), variable/incentive compensation and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. Please note that the base pay shown is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location. We also offer health plans, including flexible spending accounts, a 401(k) Plan with company match, ESPP, matching donations, a flexible time away plan and family leave programs. Compensation is based on the geographic location in which the role is located and is subject to change based on work location.
