Assistant Director, Marketing & Communications
The Assistant Communications Director, working collaboratively with a dedicated team, provides strategic leadership, oversight, and support for marketing and communications initiatives across the College of Arts and Sciences (ArtSci), including its departments, centers, and institutes. As a member of the college's marketing and communications management team, this role guides staff and stakeholders in achieving communications objectives that align with the college's strategic goals delivering creative, efficient, and impactful solutions. Opportunities to Contribute: Build trust and serve as a positive role model for team members by demonstrating strong listening skills, strategic thinking, effective project planning, time management, and consistent reliability. Create content and manage the research web page, A&Mplified Research, and promote these announcements to various target audiences through social media, e-newsletters, and other channels. Lead the creation and publication of news and feature stories for the college website and digital newsletter by conducting research, writing, editing, and ensuring adherence to editorial best practices. Collaborate with team members to conceptualize and source visual media that enhances storytelling and supports strategic communication goals. Oversee all aspects of ArtSci and affiliated websites, ensuring strategic planning, team supervision, content management, technical maintenance, manage requests, design, analytics and reporting, and compliance. Utilize Google Analytics to enhance website performance and user engagement and explore search engine marketing (SEM) tools like Google Ads to increase visibility in search engine results. Create annual performance and project goals. Act as the primary liaison to our Texas A&M news team and the media by researching, pitching, and maintaining ArtSci content and experts, collaborating on AP video contributions, and responding to media inquiries. Collaborate closely with leadership to identify potential crises and develop comprehensive communication protocols, plans, and templates, including a formal crisis communications plan for the College of Arts and Sciences. Lead, supervise, and mentor full-time and student communications staff, including those assigned to the college website team. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in communications or equivalent combination of education and experience. Seven years of communication experience. A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess: Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or related fields. Eight or more years of progressively responsible experience in team and project management, client relations, marketing, communications, or public relations, preferably in higher education, including supervisory experience. Five years of related supervisory experience. Clear understanding of the mission, goals and challenges in the College of Arts and Sciences and familiarity with Texas A&M and higher education trends, especially as they relate to marketing and communications. Working knowledge of strategic marketing and communications across digital and print, including branding and identity and how college-specific messages fit into TAMU branding efforts. Deep understanding of how to craft compelling narratives that showcase our academic, research, and outreach impact. Proficiency in tools such as Google Analytics, SEO/SEM, email marketing and social media analytics, and familiarity with decision-making and KPI development for marketing campaigns. Ability to develop and implement marketing and communications plans. Experience leading teams, delegating tasks, and mentoring junior staff and student workers. Strong collaboration abilities related to faculty, administration, and external partners. Expertise in managing digital campaigns, including social media, websites, email, and multimedia content. Strong media relations skills and the ability to handle press releases, media pitches, and crisis communications. Excellent written communications skills, including the ability to craft speeches, newsletters, and web content. Familiarity with tools such as Adobe Creative Suite and Canva for creating visually appealing marketing materials. Basic knowledge of video production, editing, and storytelling for promotional purposes. Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with stakeholders, including faculty, students, alumni, staff, and donors. Ability to mediate conflicting priorities while maintaining professionalism. Capacity to quickly adapt to changing priorities, such as last-minute requests or urgent announcements. Resourcefulness in solving creative or logistical challenges. Proven ability to work collaboratively with various university departments across the college and university. Experience fostering a productive climate. Expertise in Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign. Knowledge of AP style.
