Job Summary: Under the general direction of the Program Manager I (PM I), the Senior Emergency Services Coordinator (SESC) performs a wide variety of consultative, advisory, and evaluative duties in the areas of hazard mitigation including vulnerability assessments, risk analysis, planning and emergency management and is responsible for coordinating, tracking and analysis of hazard mitigation planning program activities. The incumbent will research, interpret, and apply federal and state legislation, rules, practices, and principles governing the Hazard Mitigation Programs. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with the creation, coordination, and delivery of hazard mitigation planning trainings aimed at jurisdictions across California.

The Hazard Mitigation Planning (HMP) Division of the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is focused to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from natural and human-caused hazards. The essential steps of Hazard Mitigation are: (1) Hazard identification; (2) Vulnerability analysis; (3) Defining a hazard mitigation strategy; and (4) Implementation of hazard mitigation activities and projects. The incumbent is responsible for assisting in the implementation of Hazard Mitigation Programs as described in the Disaster Act Mitigation Act of 2000, Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief Act, and the California Emergency Assistance Act, and other relevant state and federal laws and regulations.

Working Conditions Hybrid Telework : This position is eligible for a hybrid work. Additional in office days may be required based on the business needs. Main Office loc ated in Mather, CA.

The Resilience Branch within the Hazard Mitigation Section of the California Emergency Services (Cal OES) is dedicated to fostering a resilient California mitigation planning with grant selection and implementation. Our mission communities, including those historically underserved, to compete on national for funds that enhance their resilience against natural disasters. Through technical assistance, we aim to reduce long-term risks, promote climate infrastructure, fostering a state that thrives in the face of adversity.

The Hazard Mitigation Planning Division of the Resilience Branch of the Hazard Section leads California's efforts to reduce long-term disaster risk through and local mitigation planning. We maintain and update the State Hazard (SHMP), Climate Adaptation Planning Guide, support development and Mitigation Plans (LHMPs) and ensure plans meet state and federal standards. targeted outreach, technical assistance, and training, we equip communities hazards, assess vulnerabilities, and implement strategies that strengthen access to critical mitigation funding.

In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.

Senior Emergency Services Coordinator - Exam 1676

Training and Development (T&D) assignments are temporary assignments to provide an employee training and experience to move to a different occupational field. A T&D assignment is a formal agreement between the employee, the current supervisor, and the new supervisor. The duration of agreements can vary in length but shall not exceed twenty-four (24) months. The duration may also be the length of experience needed to meet the minimum qualifications. Please note they are only available to current California State employees who have permanent status.
