Overview

Manager, Sustainability Data and Reporting

oversees the collection, validation, analysis, management, and disclosure of sustainability and ESG data for the organization. Supporting BDO’s Sustainability Center of Excellence (CoE), this role delivers accurate, auditable, transparent, and impactful sustainability data and reporting that supports internal decision‑making, stakeholder communications, and compliance with client requirements and global sustainability standards and regulations. The role manages the end‑to‑end sustainability reporting process, including project management of BDO’s annual report, ensuring alignment with global reporting standards, maintaining sustainability data systems, and driving continuous improvement in data quality and reporting efficiency. The Sustainability Data & Reporting Manager collaborates with internal and external stakeholders and supports the company’s progress toward science‑based emissions reduction targets and renewable energy goals.

Oversees annual sustainability data collection process and collaborates with core business services teams (including Finance, Internal Audit, IT, Legal, Travel and Procurement) on data validation, quality management and internal controls, and record‑keeping

Collaborates with internal stakeholders to define data ownership, improve data quality, and address gaps or inconsistencies

Calculates annual Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions footprint and manages GHG data in BDO’s carbon accounting software, overseeing process integration, data quality and timely and accurate updates

Translates complex sustainability data into clear insights and visualizations for dashboards, scorecards, leadership briefings, and stakeholder reporting and performance tracking

Manages Sustainability CoE review of Client Supplier Code of Conduct terms and conditions and related sustainability client inquiries; tracks compliance with requirements and related KPIs

Manages end‑to‑end sustainability reporting, including project management and publication of annual report, ratings agency submissions, and other voluntary or regulatory disclosures, ensuring alignment with global reporting standards and frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD, SBTi, CDP, CSRD)

Liaises with BDO global office and member firm sustainability teams to provide annual firm emissions inputs, collaborate on process improvements and share best practices and analysis

Implements and manages internal data controls and data assurance processes and supports external assurance of sustainability reports and data

Oversees corporate sustainability team operations, including management of internal Sharepoint page and weekly team meeting agendas, liaising with Finance on invoicing needs, serving as team Airtable subject matter expert, creation and management of project plans and progress tracking, and conducting research projects on sustainability topics, as needed

Evaluates processes and tools for efficiency, scalability, and automation opportunities

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, Management Information Systems, Data Science and Analytics, or Sustainability/Environmental Science, required

Experience

Five (5) or more years of experience in sustainability reporting, GHG accounting and emissions data management, required

Three (3) or more years of experience in project plan development, management, and implementation, required

Demonstrated experience with sustainability frameworks, disclosure standards, and ratings agencies (GRI, SASB, IFRS, TCFD, CDP, Ecovadis), required

Significant experience in data management and analytics, required

Experience in a matrixed organization within a professional services or consulting environment, preferred

License/Certifications

ESG/sustainability certification, preferred

CPA, preferred

Software

Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills, required

Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g. Power BI), required

Proficient with Envizi, Watershed, Persefoni, or similar GHG accounting and reporting technology, required

Familiarity with Airtable project management platform, preferred

Other Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Strong knowledge of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and GHG accounting methods (Scopes 1, 2, and 3)

Strong program management and organizational skills, including the ability to create work plans, independently manage workstreams, manage projects to completion and meet deadlines

Ability to work with cross‑functional teams and manage communication across multiple levels and functional areas of the organization

A strong team player, with a high degree of professionalism, integrity and maturity, comfortable working collaboratively, virtually and autonomously

Driven self‑starter with a proactive approach to serving professionals at all levels and a strong aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis, research and project management

Executive presence and strong business acumen with a focus on achieving, tracking, and measuring results

Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, managing multiple priorities effectively

Ability to gather, analyze and interpret data; establish action plans based on the analysis

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. National Range: $115,000 - $135,000; Maryland Range: $115,000 - $135,000; NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $115,000 - $135,000.
