THE POSITION Under general supervision, performs manual and clerical duties in the receiving, storing, and issuing of a variety of materials and supplies; receives, unpacks, and checks materials; issues and delivers requisitioned materials; assists with counting stock, checking inventory and maintaining records.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the journey-level class in the Stores Clerk series. Incumbents in this class perform the full range of duties required of the class. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the lower class of Stores Clerk I; or, when filled from the outside, require prior stores operation experience. Appointment to the higher class requires that the employee be performing the full range of duties and meet the qualification standards for the class. This class is distinguished from Stores Clerk I by the scope of assignments and the greater independence with which an incumbent is expected to operate. This class may also be distinguished from the higher-level class of Storekeeper because the latter has greater responsibility for independently maintaining and operating an independent storeroom or warehouse and performing more complex duties that involve purchasing and inventory management.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED General supervision is provided by a supervisor, higher-level administrator or manager. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Receive, and unpack incoming materials and supplies according to applicable codes and regulations. Check delivery receipts against purchase order for accuracy. Inspect items for reliable condition. Issue materials, supplies, tools and equipment. Package items for delivery in accordance with applicable codes and regulations. Receive returned items. Record stock items in filling requests. May place orders with suppliers. Operate forklift and other stockroom equipment in the receiving, storing and retrieving of supplies and materials. Assist in the training of new employees. Assist in maintaining a wide variety of records. Perform a wide variety of routine clerical tasks associated with store room functions. Assist in periodic inventories. Pick-up and deliver supplies and materials. Perform general cleanup of storage facilities. Respond to and execute oral and written instructions. Provide exceptional customer service to those contacted in the course of work. Other related duties may also be performed. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual holding this classification. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of :

Routine storekeeping functions. Safe and efficient methods for handling heavy objects. Standard mathematical principles. Basic principles of weights and measurements. Basic practices of customer service. Basic computer hardware and software. Modern office practices. Rigging standards and principles of safe and efficient methods for handling heavy objects. Skill in:

Packaging materials and supplies for delivery. Lifting and moving materials and supplies. Developing inventory of materials and supplies. Weighing or counting items for distribution. Composing written correspondence. Managing multiple tasks and deadlines. Customer service, including dealing with conflict resolution for unsatisfied customers. Problem solving. Rigging for the handing of heavy objects. Ability to :

Perform routine clerical work associated with store room functions. Perform simple arithmetic calculations. Prepare storekeeping-related records and files using manual and/or computerized systems. Maintain storekeeping-related records and files using manual and/or computerized systems. Follow oral and written instructions. Use standard principles of weights and measurement. Communicate at a level necessary for efficient performance. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work. Perform heavy manual work in lifting and moving stock weighing up to approximately 50 pounds. Enter data at a speed not less than 30 net words per minute. Learn to operate forklifts and other storeroom equipment. Use computers and other office equipment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Experience:

Eighteen months of experience performing routine clerical and manual duties in a stores or warehouse. AND

High school diploma or its equivalent. SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to enter data at a speed not less than 30 net words per minute. Ability to attain a state issued Forklift Certification by the end of probationary period. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Driver License:

Eligibility : Candidates who pass the Training and Experience Test will be placed on the eligible list. Screening Committee : (Pass/Fail)- All candidates that pass the examination and are in one of the top three ranks will have their application forwarded to the hiring department for review.
