Position Overview
A Board-Certified Gastroenterologist is needed for a 26-week locum tenens assignment providing both inpatient and outpatient GI services. The role includes hospital coverage, freestanding GI center procedures, and outpatient clinic consults. Physicians will cover 7 days per week , including weekday clinical shifts, weekday night pager call, and continuous weekend coverage with Friday night pager into Saturday morning. While advanced endoscopy is preferred , it is not required - providers with ERCP/EUS skills will be prioritized but all qualified gastroenterologists will be considered. Assignment Highlights
  • Pay ranked in the Top 10% of market rates for Gastroenterology locums
  • Start Date: December 7, 2025 (26-week block minimum, with extension option)
  • Schedule:
  • Mon-Fri: 7a-4p onsite, plus pager coverage 4p-7a
  • Friday night: pager 4p-7a Saturday
  • Saturday & Sunday: 24-hour blocks (7a-7a) with onsite coverage during the day and pager coverage overnight
  • Weekend call includes first 4 hrs of callback (additional hours paid separately)
  • Procedures - Required: upper/lower endoscopy with biopsy, polypectomy, small bowel biopsy, manometry, esophageal dilation, sigmoidoscopy
  • Procedures - Preferred: ERCP, EUS, variceal banding, advanced therapeutic endoscopy, liver biopsy, Sengstaken/Blakemore tube
  • Consults: 6-10 new per day (with APP rounding support for established patients)
  • Support Staff: 5 GI physicians, 9 APPs, OR staff, CRNAs
  • Travel: May be required between coverage locations (all within 10 minutes)

  • Travel prepaid Malpractice insurance provided Skills & Experience
    • Board Certification in Gastroenterology (Required)
    • Active South Carolina license, CSR, DEA (or willing to license)
    • ACLS & BLS required
    • Minimum 2 years' post-training experience
    • Epic EMR experience preferred
    • Advanced endoscopy experience strongly preferred but not required
