The Opportunity

We are looking for a candidate who will be part of the Architecture team within EY Client Technology\'s Engineering Architecture Practice. The candidate will be responsible for defining and delivering architectures and designs for business-critical global products and platforms, with focus on scalable distributed systems, cloud-native solutions, modern enterprise architectures, and Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) enterprise implementations. You\'ll architect solutions hosted in a variety of infrastructure/environments considering reusability, scalability, reliability, and modern design patterns in alignment with EY\'s mission and strategy. As an architect, you\'ll embody the principles of the architecture elevator—connecting strategic business vision with hands-on technical implementation while bridging the gap between executive leadership and engineering teams.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Build relationships across the business to understand their requirements, strategy and help them build product/platform roadmaps, demonstrate architecture leadership to translate business requirements into architecture blueprints, as well as innovative and practical design (both high and low level) incorporating modern distributed systems patterns, microservices architectures, cloud-native solutions, and comprehensive AEM-based digital experience platforms.
• Own the overall technology, architecture and design landscape of products/platforms from solutioning to delivery to adoption and sale phases, with deep understanding of distributed systems, containerization, orchestration platforms, enterprise security patterns, and AEM ecosystem including OSGi framework, Apache Sling, JCR repository, and AEM Guides and Sites Products.
• Design and implement enterprise-scale distributed solutions using modern protocols and frameworks, with expertise in web APIs (REST, GraphQL), containerization with Kubernetes, event-driven architectures, robust access control mechanisms using OAuth 2.0/OpenID Connect, and advanced AEM backend systems including custom OSGi services, Sling models, JCR optimization, and multi-site management implementations to create scalable systems that can operate at enterprise scale.
• Set the overall technology and architecture direction and own its end-to-end delivery in a lead architect\'s capacity, while providing constant architecture governance and guidance. Act as the critical glue between Engineering, Product Management, and Operations teams, ensuring seamless collaboration and alignment across all stakeholders, particularly in complex AEM multi-site implementations and headless content delivery architectures.
• Solve complex problems in realms where scalable solutions may not currently exist, necessitating the ideation and incubation of new distributed system approaches, modern architectural patterns, cutting-edge technologies, and innovative AEM customizations including custom workflow processes, advanced dispatcher configurations, and integration with external systems. Conduct technical feasibility assessments, buy/build analysis for platforms, vendor product evaluations, proof of concepts (with hands-on development) and present various solution options to the business with appropriate recommendations.

Required Experience

• Led and governed global engineering teams and architects, driving the technology and architecture landscape of large and complex portfolios of products/solutions/projects, including large-scale AEM implementations with AEM Guides or AEM Sites serving hundreds of thousands of users, achieving measurable success in implementation and enterprise adoption. Expert-level proficiency in Java, C#, or JavaScript (10+ years) including XML, plus advanced expertise in AEM backend development (OSGi, Sling models, JCR).
• Advanced OSGi Expertise: Dynamic service management, service trackers, Declarative Services annotations, configuration administration, and custom component development.
• Advanced Sling Framework Knowledge: Resource merging and filtering, context-aware configurations, asynchronous job handling, and complex Sling model implementations.
• Advanced JCR Repository Management: Custom node types, versioning, ACLs, clustering configurations, and performance optimization for large repositories.
• Advanced Workflows: Custom workflow steps and launchers, metadata handling, external system integration, and custom notification systems.
• Advanced Dispatcher: Dynamic content caching strategies, filtering configurations, selective cache invalidation, security hardening, and log analysis.
• Advanced Multi-Site Management (MSM): Custom rollout actions, blueprint configurations, live copy synchronization, and programmatic MSM API usage.
• Advanced Performance Optimization: Query optimization, multi-level caching strategies, memory and thread management, and profiling tools for bottleneck identification.
• Advanced Security: Custom authentication handlers, RBAC, encryption APIs, security audits, and vulnerability prevention.
• Advanced Integration: External system connectivity via REST/SOAP/GraphQL, third-party APIs, bi-directional data synchronization, and event-driven architectures.
• Advanced APIs: Custom REST and GraphQL API development, security implementation, documentation with Swagger/OpenAPI, and versioning strategies.
• Advanced Deployment and DevOps: CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, Adobe Cloud Manager, AEM as a Cloud Service, and rollback strategies.
• Advanced Testing: Unit, integration, performance, and automated UI testing with coverage measurement.
• Advanced Customizations: Complex workflow processes, custom replication agents, event listeners, schedulers, and global error handling.
• Advanced Monitoring and Logging: Log analysis, custom health checks, monitoring dashboards, alerting systems, and audit logging.
• Real-World Scenarios: Large-scale implementations, migration projects, headless delivery, multi-tenant configurations, and disaster recovery planning.
• Advanced Tools and Frameworks: Development tools, custom Maven archetypes, Docker environments, AEM CLI automation, and custom tooling development.
• Advanced Best Practices: Code quality, security protocols, performance optimization, documentation, and code review processes.
• Advanced Interview Preparation: System design capabilities, troubleshooting, case studies, behavioral prep, and whiteboard problem solving.

And should have

• Comprehensive AEM integration patterns including headless content delivery, external system integration, and custom API development.
• Architecture leadership skills with advanced understanding and practical experience in modern architecture patterns, with proven track record in complex, large-scale implementations serving hundreds of thousands of users across the entire product lifecycle.
• Hands-on deep experience in architecture including application integration, cloud infrastructure architecture, data pipelines, security architectures, and delivery of platforms using cloud-native services, full-stack apps, DevSecOps, security practices, automated deployment pipelines.
• Distributed system architectures, multi-service systems, API gateway patterns, scalability, load balancing, caching, fault tolerance.
• Expert knowledge of data management including relational and NoSQL databases, data streaming, real-time processing, governance, lifecycle management, A/B testing strategies, performance monitoring.
• Strong background in security, regulatory standards in enterprise environments.
• Demonstrated interest in AI technologies and integration into architectural decisions.
• Strong background in modern software architecture patterns including event-driven architectures, data streaming, microservices.
• XML knowledge, including DITA.

Ideally, You'll Also Have

• Bachelor\'s or Master\'s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, AI/ML, Mathematics, or related field.
• 10+ years IT experience with CMS, 5+ years in architect roles, including enterprise platforms, distributed deployments, team leadership, and 5+ years of hands-on AEM architecture and development experience with large-scale implementations.
• Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) in AEM Sites, Guides, and/or AEM Assets.
• Experience with container orchestration, API management, service mesh, distributed systems ecosystems, and AEM tooling (AEM Developer Tools, Maven archetypes, Docker for AEM, AEM CLI).
• Thought leadership in technology; presenting ideas, building technology viewpoints, and participating in industry forums/events and open-source projects.
• Adobe Experience Manager community involvement and conferences.
• Experience in low-code/no-code platforms, data governance technologies, mobile apps, cloud security concepts, headless content delivery, progressive web apps, omnichannel experiences. Knowledge of AI/ML concepts such as MCP, Google A2A is preferred but not required.
• Experience in AI-powered business use-cases with low-code/no-code AI platforms, conversational AI, AI governance, and intelligent content management systems on AEM with personalization and automated workflows.
• Security knowledge: Auth 2.0/OpenID Connect, API security, container security, secure deployment, SAML integration, custom authentication, and secure content delivery networks.

• Base salary range in the US: $111,100 to $207,800. Salary varies by geography.
• Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Most client-serving roles require in-person collaboration 40-60% of the time.
