Director, Maintenance and Asset Reliability

Allied Reliability is seeking a Director of Maintenance and Asset Reliability to provide technical leadership for Progressive Maintenance (PM) in a union environment across our network of plants, drive the asset reliability strategy, and implement improvements to deliver operational excellence while increasing the technical skill level within the maintenance organization. This role has a direct impact on safety, quality, efficiency, cost management, customer satisfaction, and innovation.

The Director of Maintenance & Asset Reliability will focus on coaching the maintenance organization across four plants to identify and resolve abnormalities, implement the right preventive maintenance to enable zero breakdowns, and deliver reliability improvements immediately.

What You Will Do

  • Coach maintenance organizations on identification and resolution of equipment abnormalities and build a culture where maintenance resources proactively identify and address abnormalities before they become breakdowns.
  • Institutionalize the culture of planned maintenance across our network of plants and establish the right governance.
  • Institutionalize the use of CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) to track maintenance activities within plants for work orders, planned/predictive maintenance, spare parts inventory/sharing and MRO management.
  • Leverage CMMS to improve spare parts management to support planned and unplanned maintenance.
  • Develop and coordinate strategies that accelerate and improve current maintenance practices and processes to improve equipment performance, reliability, and lower maintenance costs.
  • Initiate and manage corporate maintenance programs based on best practices in the FMCG industry, emphasizing equipment criticality, time-based and condition-based maintenance, effective planning and scheduling, high-quality maintenance repairs, and safety, health and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Analyze operational data and equipment performance history to deliver improvements in metrics such as unplanned downtime, PM compliance, schedule compliance, Mean Time Between Failures, and maintenance-related costs.
  • Partner with HR to develop criteria, testing protocols, and partnerships to accelerate the identification and hiring of highly skilled maintenance associates.
  • Identify technical training and development of mechanical/electrical talent across the organization; work with plant management to recommend training programs.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive maintenance and reliability training to maintenance resources; conduct workshops, benchmarking trips and measure results tied to activities that enhance the plant's asset reliability.
  • Leverage company subject matter experts to advance maintenance and reliability efforts through improved communication and best practice sharing.

What You Will Bring

  • Technical expertise in maintenance within the FMCG industry and a deep understanding of components and their normal versus abnormal conditions.
  • Significant experience leading asset reliability manufacturing performance in a fast-moving environment with exceptional results (FMCG experience), with time spent at the Front Line and Maintenance Manager level.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of good manufacturing practice, process improvement and optimization, reconfiguration and embedding of new or enhanced technology, managing costs and variance, motivators and engagement levers for shop-floor performance, experience in TPM/Total Productive Maintenance, 5S, LEAN, and Six Sigma tools.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), coaching, and leadership skills in a team-based environment, with demonstrated analytics, problem solving, and team-building abilities, plus financial and business acumen, project management skills, and knowledge of industrial maintenance and manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience interfacing with broader Supply Chain functions and strong capability in managing relationships and outcomes.

Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field required. A specialization course or MBA in Maintenance Engineering, Project Management, TPM/Lean is a plus.

Job Specific Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in a Maintenance and Engineering managerial role.
  • Proven TPM expertise and full implementation of PM (Progressive Maintenance).
  • Experience leading a plant maintenance organization within the FMCG industry.
  • Demonstrated success leading in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in fluid, fast-paced situations, with personal leadership to influence and motivate self and peers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong working knowledge of CMMS (e.g., SAP PM, SAP MM).
  • Familiarity with OSHA and FDA regulations.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken).
