Overview
nVent is seeking an Engineering Director for Engineered Building Solutions (EBS). The role leads engineering operations across multiple sites, delivering high-quality, tailored engineered-to-order solutions for power utilities and data centers. This role requires strong technical leadership, people leadership, customer engagement, project management, and a focus on continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Complex Engineered-to-Order Expertise: Build and lead teams in a highly customized, high-mix ETO environment across mechanical, electrical, structural, and manufacturing engineering disciplines.
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement engineering strategies, standardize processes, and drive innovation while aligning with company goals and customer requirements.
- Engineering Process Standardization: Establish and maintain consistent processes for all product lifecycle phases, from quoting to commissioning, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with sales, operations, production, and project management to deliver high-quality solutions; empower engineering teams to translate customer requirements into feasible offerings.
- Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement: Apply Lean principles (visual management, Gemba walks, Kaizens) and structured problem-solving to improve productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Driving Results and Engineering Performance: Improve metrics such as lead time, throughput, first-pass yield, and overall product quality; lead Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives to reduce costs while preserving quality.
- Team Leadership and Development: Mentor engineering managers across sites, ensuring teams have the tools, resources, and guidance to deliver sophisticated, custom-engineered products.
- Innovation and R&D Oversight: Identify and promote new technologies, systems, and processes to improve performance, scalability, and efficiency; stay ahead of industry trends and regulatory requirements.
- Customer Engagement and Technical Expertise: Participate in customer interactions (QBRs, design reviews, project status meetings) and ensure solutions meet customer expectations with timely engineering work and technical guidance.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure all engineered solutions align with industry standards, codes, and regulations; implement quality controls throughout engineering and production processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering with a strong preference for an electrical engineering focus.
- Ideally 15+ years of engineering experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role leading global teams.
- Experience with ETO/custom-engineered products, preferably in the utility, data center, or renewable energy industries.
- Proven track record in standardizing engineering processes and leading project-based businesses.
- Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel on average 30% of the time.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay transparency and base pay within the stated range, determined by location, knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, education, and performance. Compliance with minimum wage requirements where applicable.
- Compensation Range: 175,000 – 250,000 USD. Eligible for additional incentives (annual or long-term) as offered by the company.
