Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous standard at initial hire are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must be from an approved school by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year completed. Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S., its territories, or the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. (Note: VA academic faculty may require board certification.) Approved residencies include those by ACGME, AOA, or other non-US programs with five years of verified U.S. practice. Residents in accredited programs may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs) if fully licensed and on a fee or intermittent basis. PRPs are not independent practitioners and will not be privileged; they perform duties under supervision. Surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
