Materials Manager

Compensation: $65,000 $75,000
We are seeking a Materials Manager for our client, to oversee the flow of materials that keep our production running smoothly. This position is responsible for coordinating procurement, scheduling deliveries, monitoring inventory levels, and managing storage of both raw and packaging materials, as well as office supplies. Reporting to the Plant Manager and working closely with the Corporate Planning Manager, this individual will ensure that the plants supply chain operations support safety, quality, efficiency, and cost-control objectives.
What Youll Do
- Manage material availability and accuracy of inventory to support production schedules and office needs.
- Partner with plant leadership and cross-functional teams to prepare for upcoming business initiatives.
- Identify supply chain risks early and develop solutions that protect production schedules and customer expectations.
- Develop and strengthen vendor relationships to improve service levels and reduce costs.
- Oversee purchasing cycles and adjust orders based on forecasts, lead times, and inventory goals.
- Track and control direct and indirect material spend to align with annual budget targets.
- Schedule incoming deliveries and find opportunities to lower inbound freight costs.
- Conduct inventory audits, cycle counts, and ensure compliance with company standards.
- Maintain accurate data within MRP/ERP systems (Sage X3 preferred).
- Ensure daily operations meet food safety, GMP, and workplace safety standards.
- Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support the department and plant.
What Were Looking For
- Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or related discipline preferred (relevant experience may substitute).
- At least 2 years of experience in materials management, logistics, production planning, or food manufacturing (bakery background strongly preferred).
- Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems; Sage X3 experience is a plus.
- Solid understanding of consumer goods and food ingredients.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and make fact-based decisions.
- Excellent communication skills and comfort working across all organizational levels.
- Entrepreneurial approach with the ability to navigate ambiguity and prioritize effectively.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with experience handling large data volumes.
Work Setting & Physical Requirements
This position is based in a production and warehouse environment with occasional exposure to noise, dust, or temperature fluctuations.
- Frequent standing, walking, and sitting.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Regular use of computers and repetitive hand/wrist motions.
- Classified as light work.
