Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Financial Aid, the Assistant Director of Financial Aid is responsible for implementing activities in the overall operation of student financial aid programs offered through the Office of Financial Aid and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the office. The Assistant Director possesses functional knowledge of student financial aid processes, technical expertise and problem-solving abilities. The Assistant Director works with office and Institutional Technology personnel to develop and expand electronic processes; receives, returns and reconciles financial aid monies; serves as liaison with internal and external constituencies; counseling and advising students applying for financial aid,such as loans,grants-in-aid, or scholarships to determine eligibility for assistance. Assists with awarding, tracking and reporting of institutional and outside scholarships.

SPECIFICDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIALJOBFUNCTIONS

Participates in recruitment to ensure effective communication with prospective and admitted students, internal offices, and external agencies with the ultimate goal of enrolling students to meet stated goals.

Assists in establishing financial aid office policies by coordinating and implementing office-wide tasks and procedures.

Administer and conduct ongoing statistical reviews and reconciliation of all financial aid programs including Federal College Work-Study, Federal PellGrant, Federal SEOG, State Aid Programs, Institutional Scholarships, Federal Direct Loans and any other source of funds for student assistance.

Ensures that the department maintains compliance with all applicable federal, state and institutional rules and regulations.

Maintain day-to-day responsibility for the Powerfaids Financial Aid module, overseeing all systems processing. Write and update rules, population selections, and other functional/technical aspects of the system.

Determines eligibility and awards various types of institutional, state, and federal financial aid.

Provides support in processing the Federal Direct Loan programs and Common Origination and Disbursement (COD).

Manage and reconcile state grant funds.

Prepare informational materials for publication and maintain current information on the departmental website.

Administer and reconcile scholarship and institutional funds.

Oversee and coordinate the Student Loan Default Management program, including prevention and management activities as well as borrower outreach.

Works closely with the Director in developing and implementing automated processes.Evaluates, trains and supervises the Financial Aid Counseling staff. Manage workflow.

Assists with outreach efforts to the community - such as recruitment to ensure effective communication with prospective and admitted students to meet stated goals.

Authorizes release of funds to students and prepares required records and reports. Reconciles all loan program accounts; maintains balance records.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs general clerical/administrative duties as required, including but not limited to entering computer data, copying and filing documents, typing reports and correspondence, answering the telephone, reviewing mail, etc.

Performs related duties as required.

QualificationsBachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization Five (5) years' experience working in a college or university student financial aid office

Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations within Federal and State student financial assistance programs including tax laws

Demonstrated ability to work with an array of proprietary and open-source computer operating systems and databases such as Jenzabar EX, SQL, PowerFAIDS, COD, Ellucian Colleague, Banner or comparable systems.

Experience working in a Window's based environment using Microsoft Office including Microsoft Word, Access, Powerpoint, and Excel.
