New York, NYCond Nast is seeking a results-oriented and strategic Associate Director, Retention and Engagement to help shape and scale subscriber experiences that deepen engagement and reduce churn. This role will be a key member of the Lifecycle and Loyalty team, responsible for creating personalized, automated journeys that move subscribers from activation through renewal and reactivation.
Reporting to the Director of Lifecycle and Loyalty, this individual will collaborate closely with stakeholders across Product, Audience Development, and Editorial to bring the customer journey to life through compelling messaging, smart automation, and timely interventions. The role requires a strong grasp of lifecycle marketing, retention metrics, and subscriber behavior in digital and print ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute targeted lifecycle campaigns focused on improving engagement, renewal rates, and subscriber satisfaction.
Leverage Treasure Data (CDP) and platforms like Klaviyo, Sailthru, and Iterable to deploy segmented, automated campaigns across email, push, and other owned channels.
Monitor engagement and churn trends, identifying high-risk subscriber cohorts and implementing proactive retention strategies.
Contribute to loyalty-focused programs that reward tenure, drive advocacy, and enhance the overall subscriber experience.
Work closely with Product to design in-app and on-site experiences that reinforce subscription value and encourage habitual use.
Align with Audience Development on coordinated messaging across paid, owned, and earned media.
Partner with Editorial to integrate compelling content into lifecycle touchpoints that inform, delight, and retain users.
Design and execute A/B tests to optimize messaging, frequency, and journey logic.
Deliver performance reporting and insights, using data to recommend campaign optimizations and identify new opportunities.
Qualifications
57 years of experience in lifecycle marketing, retention strategy, or customer engagement roles, ideally within subscription, media, or consumer digital products.
Hands-on experience with Treasure Data or other enterprise CDPs, and lifecycle marketing platforms such as Klaviyo, Sailthru, or Iterable.
Strong understanding of customer segmentation, churn behavior, engagement metrics, and LTV.
Track record of successfully executing multi-channel, data-driven campaigns.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills with experience working across Product, Marketing, and Editorial teams.
Analytical mindset with a passion for testing, learning, and continuous improvement.
Experience in e-commerce or digital subscription environments is a plus.
The expected base salary range for this position is from $113,000-$147,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
