”. The Department is a diverse organization which consists of five Divisions that work collaboratively to meet the vision, mission, and goals of the department: Administrative Services, Cultural Services, Library Services, Parks Services, and Recreation Services.

The Position The

Senior

Program Specialist plans, organizes, and direct major

Theatre Company and Cultural Services City events . This position generally supervises multiple sites or a complex site operation and does related work as required. This is a recurrent, part-time, non-civil service, as needed position. This position is eligible for PERS and may be eligible for prorated benefits.

Under direction from the Stage Manager, the

Senior Program Specialist

plans, organizes, and performs technical support activities and events such as Torrance Summer Nights & Cherry Blossom Festival for the Cultural Arts Center.

Senior Program Specialist

assists in the safe operation and maintenance of theater sound, lighting, rigging, and related equipment and systems used in support of stage productions and related events; and performs related duties as required. The

Senior Program Specialist

also

ensures the safe technical operations of the Cultural Arts Center; operates and maintain equipment, materials, tools and supplies used in technical production and set design; evaluates equipment needs and notifies supervisor of need to repair or replace equipment; and troubleshoots theater equipment.

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience that would have provided the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be: Graduation from High School or equivalent and two years of increasingly responsible part-time experience at the level of a Program Specialist. A BA/BS in Recreation, Cultural Studies, or a related field is desirable. License and/or Certificates Negative tuberculin test.

Some positions may require the following certifications: A valid California Class C Driver's License. Certification in Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is desirable.

Ideal Candidate In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will possess: Ability to work on a computer and with Microsoft Office, as well the ability to learn and and use other specific software-related to theater technology, including lighting and sound software; Ability to design sound and to set-up and run sound equipment for varied indoor and outdoor events; Ability to design scenery and lighting for theatrical productions and staged events; Ability to follow instructions and communicate, both orally and in writing; Understanding of conflict resolution; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships withsupervision and subordinate staff, as well as with other Citypersonnel, the public and facility users; Ability to train, supervise and provide direction to subordinate part-time personnel; Perform job duties under minimal supervision; and Work night and weekend hours as a part of regular schedule. Work is typically performed at indoor and outdoor program sites in seasonal weather conditions. Work may require exposure to noise, dust and dirt. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, and moderately loud when in the field.

Physical demands may include bending, kneeling, squatting, sitting, running and climbing. May lift or move up to 50 pounds with assistance.

Work irregular hours, shifts, or weekends as required.
