SUMMARY OF POSITION Under direct supervision of the Streets Supervisor, the purpose of this position is to perform general repair and maintenance of streets, drainage systems, signs, and signals. Employees in this classification perform manual level work. This position is responsible for assisting in the preparation of work are, tools, equipment, and may perform other related functions as assigned. Essential Functions/Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Participates in all phases of streets, gutter drainage and alley repair and construction. Assists preparing work areas and securing job sites by setting up cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices. Assist in preparing tools, materials, and equipment necessary for various job assignments. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and tools by cleaning and servicing regularly. Makes repairs in pavement, curb, gutter and sidewalk using epoxy based chemicals and products with supervision. Operates simple to moderately complex equipment, such as concrete vibrator, jack hammer, concrete saw, pavement grinder and motorized/non-motorized hand tools. Maintains operational records, schedules and fills out work orders. Responds to emergency situations after hours and/or on weekends. Participates in establishing traffic control devices such as barricades and cones, Guides traffic flow at work sites. Assists with setup, teardown, and clean up of special events and meetings throughout the City. Conducts safety inspections of vehicles and equipment, sets up barricades, cones, and road signs, and wears protective gear as indicated for the work assignment. Assist other City employees during storms and national disaster. Comply with all written City policies and procedures. Adhere to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures. If assigned to asphalt

Assist with crack seal operations. Assist with all asphalt finishing hand tools. Assist with filling potholes with hot mix asphalt. Assist with pavement reconstruction and repairs. If assigned to concrete

Assist with setting up forms and rebar. Assists crew members with small hand tools like shovels and concrete rakes. If assigned to drainage

Assist with shooting elevations. Assist with setting up forms and rebar. Assist crew members with small hand tools. Carries small debris from areas like creeks and lakes. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Ability to perform coordinated movements involving placing and turning motions, such as operating back hoes, motor graders, box blades, rollers, etc. Additionally, requires the ability to utilize shovels, asphalt rakes, laser instruments and street saws. Ability to work in a team environment; contribute as a team member and treat co-workers, subordinates, and customers with respect. Ability to build professional relationships with internal staff and customers. Ability to offer flexibility and adaptability, especially during times of change. Ability to learn the current work order system. Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the below Minimum Qualifications may be an acceptable substitute.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by previous experience and/or training involving street/drainage maintenance or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.

Must possess a valid Texas Class "A" commercial driver's license or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of employment.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Must pass a drug screen and background check. Must have Class C Texas Driver's License Must obtain the National Incident Merit System (NIMS) certificate IS-100 and IS-700 within 6 months of employment. During storms or natural disasters, staff will be divided into two 12-hour shifts. During storms or natural disasters, staff may be called in while on vacation.
