Position Library Associate - Reference Section

Position Summary
The Library Associate for Reference provides information and access services to support the academic and research needs of the University community.
Duties and Responsibilities Assists the professional librarians in developing and maintaining the Collection, which includes ordering, withdrawing, filing. Develops subject bibliographies and research strategies to assist library users with library electronic resources. Instructs students, faculty, and staff in the use of library resources. Promotes library services, which includes library tours. Initiates and assesses on a continual basis, the inventory of all library resources. Facilitates project management completion of library projects, as assigned. Orders division supplies when necessary. Performs monthly and as-needed reports. Trains and schedules technicians, clerical workers and student assistants. Edits databases as required. Oversees circulation desk as needed. Assists Interlibrary Loan office as needed. Develops and maintains current public services policies and procedures. Creates pamphlets, brochures, flyers, etc. to promote library services. On a rotational basis, provides assistance at the Reference Desk, as well as provides research assistance to patrons in person and via phone, mail, email and chat (Online Helpdesk). Responds to comments and suggestions submitted to suggestion boxes in Library and on-line; Conducts weekly door alarm checks; Commitment for reading job-related information. Maintain regular attendance. Perform any other Library related activity as instructed by the Public Services Librarian. Minimum Job Requirements
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree from accredited university. EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) years of library, clerical, or customer service experience.
Preferred Qualifications
EXPERIENCE: o Reference desk experience o Customer Service experience o Library experience.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
Willing to work evenings, weekends, odd hours, and holidays as required; Occasional travel is required. Typical schedule is Sunday through Thursday, from 1:00PM until 10:00PM; Sunday through Thursday, from 3:00 PM until 12:00 AM during extended library hours; and Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM during semester breaks. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Use of bibliographic library databases. Windows based operating systems. Microsoft office products. Research skills. Ability to demonstrate excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Demonstrate a commitment to working in a team environment as well as commitment to diversity, continuous improvement, and the university philosophy.
