Renewables Asset Manager, Commercial Strategy - Energy Storage
Locations: FULLY REMOTE (Anywhere in the USA) This is an opportunity to join an industry-leading renewable energy venture and IPP with strong private equity backing, focused on developing and executing dynamic utility-scale energy storage projects. The company has accumulated over 9GW of projects and is currently expanding rapidly. The Energy Storage Asset Manager will join a growing Asset Management Division, a creative team focused on energy storage/battery storage asset management, O&M, energy trading strategies, and real-time operations. This role involves leading commercial asset management and technical engineering optimization initiatives for innovative renewable energy battery storage assets across the nation, supporting a utility-scale renewable energy portfolio. Additionally, the role includes pioneering the build-out of a proprietary energy storage management platform. Responsibilities: Manage daily operations of utility-scale battery storage assets nationwide to ensure optimal performance post-COD. Review and recommend on commercial agreements such as PPAs, O&M, Transmission Interconnection, Leases, Project Financing, and Entity Structures. Lead asset-based accounting initiatives in collaboration with the accounting team to develop and analyze operational budgets. Provide technical expertise to project development and EPC teams regarding design, contractual terms, warranties, and risk assessments. Offer commercial expertise on P&Ls, budgeting, energy deal structures, PPAs, and cash management. Plan operational outages, switching, and maintenance to minimize downtime. Oversee operational compliance with NERC/FERC and ISO/RTO requirements through third-party service providers.
Qualifications:
Experience in utility-scale renewable asset management, portfolio management, or operations, with a strong emphasis on commercial asset management; engineering background is a plus. Proven success in asset management/engineering, including financial performance optimization, O&M management, and energy platform experience. Strong background in P&Ls, budgeting, energy deal structures, PPAs, and cash management. Experience managing third-party O&M contractors and service providers. Knowledge of NERC, FERC, or ISO/RTO operational compliance, outage management, and switching. Familiarity with SCADA Management and plant control systems. Ability to review and understand commercial agreements is a plus. Ideal candidates have held roles such as Sr. Portfolio Manager, Asset Manager, Asset Management Lead, Sr. Asset Engineer, or similar in renewable or clean energy sectors.
