About this role
The Sr Principal Electrical Engineer leads and manages hardware aspects of products throughout their lifecycle, from architecture and planning to design, verification, and validation. Provides electrical-design technical leadership for cross-functional teams in new product development and sustaining engineering projects. Hardware design involves products based on complex sensing technologies (e.g., Optical, Electrochemical) and communication technologies (wired and wireless).
Key Responsibilities
Lead hardware strategic planning, concept development, architecture definition, and translation into system/subsystem/component specifications, focusing on reliability, safety, and sustainability.
Provide technical leadership to electrical engineering and project teams.
Expertise in electrical circuit design methodologies that meet high EMC performance standards.
Develop and document subsystem engineering requirements aligned with customer, system, and regulatory standards.
Collaborate with Embedded Firmware Engineers to develop strategies for hardware/firmware integration and diagnostics.
Develop and implement electronic designs that meet customer, marketing, and regulatory requirements.
Assess impacts of changes to existing electrical components, subcircuits, PCBs, and PCBAs.
Lead engineering change requests and manufacturing change orders.
Perform CAD modeling, simulation, risk analyses (e.g., DFMEA), schematic capture, board layout, and mechanical fit analyses.
Develop test cases and ensure traceability from requirements.
Build and test designs from bench to formal verification using in-house or third-party test facilities.
Support quality investigations and root cause analysis.
Follow development processes, lead technical reviews, and document work deliverables.
Provide work breakdown structures and task estimates for project planning.
Utilize Agile methodologies for hardware development with effective stakeholder communication.
Identify project risks and propose mitigation strategies.
Participate in roadmap and resource planning.
Support multiple product development programs simultaneously.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
15-20+ years of professional experience.
At least 10 years of developing mixed-signal PCB/PCBA designs.
Experience leading hardware development from inception to market launch.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree.
Experience with FPGA and analog circuit design.
Expertise in high EMC performance circuit design and layout.
Experience with embedded systems using MCUs/MPUs, sensing technologies, communication interfaces, and user interfaces.
Knowledge of Design for Manufacturability and Test.
Platformed product development experience.
Experience with regulated products (medical, automotive, industrial safety, SIL2).
Proficiency with FMEAs and risk mitigation techniques.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Self-motivated with process improvement experience.
