Job Purpose
The Director of Music and Liturgy is a vital position responsible for guiding the music and liturgical practices at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and School. In alignment with the pastor's vision, this role involves selecting and performing both traditional and contemporary music to enhance the worship experience and fulfill the requirements of the Catholic Mass. The goal is to foster an engaging environment of sacred worship that nurtures a community of active discipleship, where the Gospel message is known, loved, and lived through all liturgical celebrations.
The parish uses Source and Summit Missals along with a custom parish music book containing sixty eclectic pieces. The music program includes a large repertoire of hymnody, chants, and choral works, with ensembles such as the SATB choir, Women's Schola, praise and worship group, and children's choir. Further development of the music program in collaboration with the pastor is expected.

Responsibilities
Select music that complements weekly Scripture readings and Propers in consultation with the pastor.
Direct all choirs and music ensembles; accompany Masses and select liturgical celebrations on organ and piano.
Create schedules for rehearsals and liturgies for musicians, choirs, and cantors.
Lead rehearsals for all musical groups.
Accompany school liturgies and funerals.
Coordinate music for weddings with engaged couples and the wedding coordinator.
Oversee training, scheduling, and leadership of music ministers.
Maintain and update music resources, including library and copyright permissions.
Manage church and school sound systems and maintain instruments like piano and organ.
Collaborate with staff on liturgical planning and execution.
Design and publish liturgy guides, ensuring copyright compliance.
Prepare cantor scripts for liturgies.
Direct and coordinate liturgical ministries such as lectors, sacristans, and extraordinary ministers.
Ensure scriptural and intercessory elements are prepared for liturgies.
Manage sacristy supplies and supervise volunteers for linens and vestments.
Participate in staff meetings and retreats.
Pursue ongoing professional development as directed by the pastor.
Manage the liturgy budget.
Perform other duties as assigned.
