Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director of Digital Strategy and Revenue Innovation, this position serves as the primary digital and social media contact for OU Men’s Basketball, leading strategy, content creation, and execution across all team social channels to promote the program, grow its audience, and drive engagement. The role collaborates closely with creative, communications, and basketball staff to develop innovative campaigns, integrate emerging trends, and deliver sponsored and NIL content. In addition, the position supports web, app, and email marketing initiatives, executing revenue-generating digital projects and enhancing the online fan experience. Responsibilities also include analytics tracking, cross-platform coordination, and assisting with other sports as assigned.
Essential Functions
Social Media Serve as the men’s basketball primary contact for all social and emerging media channels and develop, execute and manage all online digital strategies. Ideate, create and publish content for @OU_MBBall social channels on Instagram, X, Facebook and websites (Sidearm and YouTube). Work closely with members of the men’s basketball pod unit consisting of fan experience, video, graphic design, communications and men’s basketball staff to ideate and execute digital strategy for the team account to holistically promote the team and grow its following. In partnership with Sooner Sports Properties – OU’s multi-media rights holder –experiment with new and alternative ways to leverage social and emerging media for the purpose of generating revenue for the department of athletics, including, but not limited to, sponsored and NIL content. Monitor social media trends and appropriately apply that knowledge to grow the account’s following and value. Strategize with and educate staff members and student-athletes on incorporating relevant social media techniques into their culture and all marketing and brand-building efforts. Measure the impact of social media using relevant analytics. Assist in the production of graphical elements and phone videos. Assist with other sports as assigned based on strengths/knowledge and growth opportunities
Web and Other Digital Marketing Participate in web strategy development and execution. Execute online revenue-generating projects through digital ad campaigns, merchandise etc. Spearhead the creation of custom microsites and web experiences that promote OU Athletics events or strategic initiatives. Work to coordinate editorial production efforts throughout the department and individual sport programs to achieve consistency and resource efficiency. Assist in strategizing growth opportunities for the Oklahoma Sooners App, including push notifications. Assist with department email marketing campaigns to drive revenue generation.
Required Education and Experience: Bachelor\'s Degree
AND; 4 years of experience in creative design, digital strategy, or other related area. Equivalency/Substitution:
Experience or a combination of education and related experience can be considered in lieu of degree. A one-to-one ratio is used to determine the number of years of experience required in place of a degree. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Familiarity with collegiate athletics operations, student-athlete support structures, and trends in athlete branding and personal marketing Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with student-athletes, administrators, external partners, and brand representatives Proven ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects or events simultaneously with strong attention to detail and deadlines Ability to build and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal departments and external stakeholders Proficient Microsoft Office Suite, social media monitoring tools, contract management software, and NIL-specific platforms Ability to think strategically and creatively to support new NIL initiatives, troubleshoot issues, and advance institutional goals Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality and upholding ethical standards in all interactions and decision-making Ability to assist in developing and delivering NIL-related training, educational materials, and presentations to student-athletes and staff Capable of working in a dynamic, evolving environment with a high degree of flexibility and responsiveness to change Familiarity with, or willingness to learn and adapt to, current and emerging AI tools and digital platforms Ability to work in person and collaborate effectively with student-athletes, staff, and external partner Ability and willingness to travel as needed for NIL events, meetings, and workshops including occasional evenings and weekends In-depth understanding of digital media platforms and their best practices Analytical skills to interpret data and optimize digital content performance Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams and external partners Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Awareness of content creation tools and software (Adobe Creative Suite, video editing software) Understanding of copyright, licensing, and athlete image rights (e.g., NIL rules) Excellent content creation skills, including writing, editing, and visual storytelling Strong strategic thinking and campaign planning capabilities Working Conditions: Frequent use of laptops, mobile devices, content management systems, and digital analytics tools Fast-paced and collaborative team environment Primarily office-based with regular on/offsite work at sporting events, training facilities, and media days Will require working events and games on evenings and weekends Occasional travel may be required for coverage of away games, tournaments, recruiting events, or content production opportunities, etc. Ability to stand or move for extended periods during events or shoots Must be able to carry light production equipment (e.g., cameras, tripods, lighting gear) if involved in on-site content capture
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a related field Experience in college athletics
