DevOps Engineers
automate software builds, test and deployment systems, and infrastructure as code. They manage various development, test, staging, and demo environments (CI/CD pipelines, backups, data refreshes), and deploy and manage software into Costco’s production environment while leveraging automation. They are responsible for advancing technology in a collaborative agile environment using modern technologies and industry best practices to deliver solutions that meet business objectives. Costco’s Payments team is seeking a highly ambitious, self-motivated Engineer with cloud microservices development experience who will manage development, test, staging, and demo environments (CI/CD pipelines, backups, data refreshes) and deploy and manage software into Costco’s production environment with automation. The ideal candidate will lead projects involving digital payment integration in a distributed, reliable application and will design, build, debug, optimize and implement solutions in a fast-paced environment while collaborating with a motivated team serving millions of customers daily. Identifies, creates and applies software development and security standards and practices. Plans, designs, and documents software components. Develops and operates end-to-end automated solutions for IT ops activities (including deployment, release management, monitoring, etc.) Collaborates with Operations, Development, and QA functions to develop solutions that are predisposed to scalability and simplified maintenance. Configures and maintains on-premises and Azure cloud infrastructure to ensure availability, performance, scalability and security of development, testing and production environments, relying on automated scripts and configuration management tools. Creates, and manages Infrastructure as Code (IaC). Maintains, extends and builds automated CI and CD pipelines. Demonstrates expertise in the deployment of integrated or standalone releases across multiple interconnected and dispersed applications. Uses industry standard tools to improve and speed up delivery of our products and services. Provides fast and thoughtful issue resolution by executing quick fixes or proactively identifying and solving problems related to builds in production environments. Creates the pipeline to periodically generate code quality metrics. Drives each team to be self-sufficient by providing tools and training and bringing different teams together to work towards common goals. Coordinates resources across technology functions to stand up and monitor environments. Configures and automates development and test environment, deployment, automation and support test data management. Works closely with product and application teams to create version control branching strategy. Works cross-value streams with other DevOps Engineers to avoid and resolve merge conflicts. Develops tool integrations that allow end-to-end traceability for application development (from requirements to code objects changed to meet the requirements). Handles the deployment, administration, maintenance, and operation of production, testing, and development environments. Troubleshoots and resolves issues in our development, testing, and production environments. Supports and improves our tools for continuous integration, streamlines our operations, processes, and releases management. Takes initiative by staying up to date with tools and technologies to increase efficiency and reliability of CI/CD, as well as being involved with their administration and maintenance. Participates in meetings as required adding value as a subject matter expert when and where required. Provides training and documentation to others as needed or required. Provides 24/7 On-Call support as part of a scheduled rotation with other team members. Serves as an escalation resource. Required
Minimum 8 years’ experience working in a public cloud environment (Azure or GCP preferred). Working knowledge of a major relational database (SQL Server preferred) and/or NoSql (Cosmos preferred). Strong experience working in CI/CD pipelines, and designing and delivering DevSecOps automation for app deployment and testing. Experience working with containers and container orchestration such as Kubernetes. Experience using configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef or equivalent. Knowledge and experience working with Web Technologies using JavaScript, React. Experience describing the solutions and generating the architecture (Logical, Physical) artifacts. Experience in SQL programming. Experience with version control (GIT preferred). Must possess a strong understanding of the software development Life Cycle. Experience developing within the Agile methodology. Working knowledge of REST, Web Services, SOAP, JSON and XML technologies. Strong knowledge of object-oriented concepts. Strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate to both technical and Business audiences. Demonstrated ability to execute against iteration plans and deliver assignments within scope, schedule, and budget. Ability to work with all management levels. Strong organizational and time management skills with ability to multitask and prioritize work effectively in a fast-paced working environment. Must be detail-oriented and possess strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze potential future issues. Must have high integrity, accountability, a positive attitude, and be willing to do what it takes to make the team successful. Must be extremely responsive, able to work under pressure in crisis with a strong sense of urgency. Responsible, conscientious, organized, self-motivated, and able to work with limited supervision. Scheduling flexibility to meet the needs of the business, including weekends, holidays, and 24/7 on call responsibilities on a rotational basis. Recommended
5+ years’ experience in:
Retail industry, retail payments and/or banking. Payment integration across acquirers and terminal vendors. Designing and implementing payment platforms and payment services. Payment types including EMV contact and contactless, stored valued and tokenized payments. Experience in regulated environments (e.g. PCI, SOX).
Experience with performance tuning, application monitoring and high availability and scalable infrastructure. Familiarity with software-defined networking and storage, IP networking, VPNs, DNS, load balancers, and firewalls. University degree or equivalent education (Computer Science or related field). Knowledge of software design patterns. Proven practical experience operating in a scalable, high volume and high availability production environment. Prior experience with performance analysis and optimization of web services, software and SQL/NoSql databases. Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.
